Comedy shows to raise money for veterans, children in need

Two local Silly Beaver Comedy shows are raising funds for local charities.

The proceeds from the first show, produced by Combat’s Creations production company, will go to St. Cloud StandDown, Inc., an organization that helps veterans in need. The second show will benefit The Compassion Connection, an organization that helps children in the foster care and adoption systems.

Jonah Maddox leads Combat’s Creations and organized the fundraisers and the comedy shows.

“I have a heart for folks, that is my background. I’m a retired Army medic so I kind of like to help those, or stick up for those, who can’t help themselves,” he said.

Both shows, he said, feature multiple comedians, each providing their own unique brand of comedy.

“It creates an atmosphere where there’s something for everyone,” he said.

The first show features comedians DC Slim, Terry Bluez, Sydni Stephens and Erick Austin. Maddox himself is the headliner for the night. All the comedians for the evening are veterans and Maddox said their comedy will appeal to all audiences. The show begins at 9 p.m. Nov. 12 at Beaver Island Brewing Co. in St. Cloud. The doors open at 8:30 p.m. and tickets should be purchased in advance at www.sillybeavercomedy.com.

The second show features Jonah Maddox as emcee as well as Comedians Matt Dooyema and Johnny Krutches. The headliner for that show is Day Peace, a nationally touring comedian from Iowa.

The funds raised that night for Compassion Connection will specifically go toward providing Christmas gifts for kids in need in the foster care system.

“The last thing they need to be worried about is having something to open on Christmas so we wanted to change that,” Maddox said.

Maddox held his first fundraising show back in March of 2021 at the House of Comedy inside the Mall of America. That year, he did a handful of Veterans shows. Now, he’s continuing the tradition.

The show to benefit The Compassion Connection begins at 9 p.m. Nov. 19 at Beaver Island Brewing Company in St. Cloud. The doors will open at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.sillybeavercomedy.com
