For the third week in a row significant winter weather is expected which could impact travel.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather warning that includes Davidson and Randolph counties, predicting between 1 and 3 inches of snow overnight Friday and Saturday morning.

Precipitation will begin as a brief period of light rain late Friday afternoon into the evening, before quickly changing to snow. Winds gust could be as high as 35 mph.

An average of 1 to locally 2 inches of snow is expected across much of central NC. Localized higher amounts around 3 inches are possible, especially across the western and southern Piedmont.

Due to freezing temperatures through Sunday, black ice concerns will persist for a couple nights thereafter. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph and locally stronger are possible tonight through Saturday morning. This could result in isolated to scattered power outages.

The National Weather Service predicts very cold temps Saturday through Sunday, with wind chill values in the teens during the daytime Saturday, and some single digits Saturday night.
