OCONTO – You don’t have be home anymore to sit at the dining room table to curl your hand around a cup of coffee.

The Café Lounge has several tables of various sizes to choose from, as well as a couch and an easy chair.

“It’s a coffee shop where people can come and gather, and not a drinking place,” said owner Lucy Pater.

“Just a comfortable environment where you can go on your laptop or read a book,” added Bill Longsine, her fiancé who helps out.

Located at the intersection of Brazeau Avenue and Main Street, the business opened just before Thanksgiving, serving up brewed coffee along with cappuccinos, latte and specialty teas.

There’s also a selection of baked goods to have with a coffee, and even soft serve ice cream in cones, sundaes and shakes.

Despite the cold weather, the ice cream has been popular, the couple said.

The Café Lounge also has a large room available for meetings and birthdays.

To help the business start, Pater received one of the $10,000 Badger Bounce Back grants from the state.

Pater said they looked at several sites around the county before settling on Oconto because the community is growing, with the goal of providing an alternative to a bar.

“We’re focused on offering a good, safe environment,” Pater said.

The Café Lounge is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. To inquire about the meeting room, call 920-516-7382.
