The BBC has confirmed that Comic Relief's Red Nose Day 2022 has raised a staggering amount of money.

At the end of Friday's charity telethon, it was revealed the three-plus-hour live appeal had managed to raise £42,790,147 for the most vulnerable across the UK and beyond (including Ukraine relief).

Along the way, guest hosts Sir Lenny Henry, Paddy McGuinness, Alesha Dixon and David Tennant presented a full night's worth of comedy and entertainment with huge stars.

Strictly Come Dancing fans were treated to a one-off reunion for 2021 winners Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice as they performed a beautiful version of their waltz from the semi-finals.

Speaking of reunions, French and Saunders popped in for a special Repair Shop mini-episode while Little Britain's David Walliams and Matt Lucas brought back their Rock Profiles sketches from the early 2000s.

Comic Relief's Comic Opera gave Call the Midwife's Helen George, EastEnders stars Tamzin Outhwaite and Nina Wadia, comedian Rosie Jones and I'm a Celebrity's Scarlett Moffatt a 24-hour crash course in the artform before a sold-out performance at the London Coliseum.

Plus, Tim Vine and Kiri Pritchard-McLean faced off in Countryfile's One Man and His Dog, while Olympian Tom Daley returned from his incredible Homecoming challenge (which involved rowing, swimming, cycling and running).

There was live music as well from Lola Young and the cast of the West End's groundbreaking musical & Juliet, as well as celebrity appeals throughout the show.

Unfortunately, not everyone could appear on Red Nose Day as planned. Hosts Joel Dommett and Zoe Ball both had to drop out at the 11th hour because they tested positive for COVID-19, while Kylie Minogue had to cancel a sketch with the cast of Ghosts for the same reason.
