Coming in 2025: AnMed breaks ground on new Piedmont facility, fills emergency care gap

On Tuesday, Oct . 24, AnMed held its groundbreaking ceremony at the corner of SC Highway 86 and Old Williamston Road in Piedmont.

The facility is dedicated to "bringing life-saving emergency services and more to an area in northeastern Anderson County that’s among the fastest-growing communities in Upstate South Carolina," according to AnMed.

Most of the Powdersville, Pelzer and Williamston areas lack emergency health care within 30 miles.

“This facility will improve South Carolina." “It will plant emergency care right in the heart of the I-85 corridor. It will bring other needed services much closer to people’s homes. It will make it so much easier for so many to be healthier. Better start here," AnMed CEO William Kenley said.

The new facility will have an emergency room, a lab and imaging center, physical therapy, specialty physician offices, X-ray, CT and ultrasound departments.

The facility is expected to cost approximately $35 million.

"Every second matters when it comes to emergency care,” AnMed Chief Nursing Officer Shaunda Trotter said. "The sooner that expert care and intervention can be provided to a person in need, the more likely that person is to recover and heal. The more likely that person is to overcome, survive and thrive.

"We are thrilled that a new, state-of-the-art emergency department is a major component of AnMed Piedmont ― because we know that this facility and our team will save lives. It will protect and help heal thousands of local families and businesses."

According to AnMed, the upcoming medical facility is expected provide more than 50 jobs when AnMed Piedmont opens in early 2025.

"This new facility is coming to the right place at exactly the right time,” Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns said. "We have seen tremendous population growth in recent time in Powdersville and northeastern Anderson County, and I have no doubt that AnMed Piedmont is going to save lives.

"Plus, the availability of AnMed primary care, physical therapy and laboratory services within a short drive will be welcomed by the many thousands of residents in the community.”

Growth continues to be a priority for AnMed

There are also plans to develop EMS and Sheriff's Office substations on the AnMed Piedmont campus in cooperation with AnMed and Anderson County.

According to AnMed, the substations could include living quarters and an ambulance garage for EMS, office facilities and a base of operations for the Sheriff’s Office.

“As a native son of Piedmont, I am so excited to see AnMed come to northern Anderson County,” Anderson County Council member Jimmy Davis said. “We are experiencing explosive growth here, and we could not ask for a better partner to further the growth of health, safety and welfare of our community.”
