Coming Wednesday: The News-Messenger will publish the biggest edition of the year

It's the week of Thanksgiving and as Americans pause to give thanks for our many blessings, I would like to take a moment and express my gratitude to the readers of The News-Messenger.

I am thankful that you are supporting local journalism and are interested in news, sports or features that you will not find anywhere else.

On Wednesday, The News-Messenger will publish the biggest edition of the year.

Reporter Roger LaPointe writes about how Liberty Center is helping to meet the needs of local homeless individuals and families. The list of needs is growing at the shelter, which provides a place to stay temporarily and supplies their residents with life's essentials. Margaret Weisz, executive director of Liberty Center, says the goal is "to help them to get back on their feet."

Also in Wednesday's edition is an article by USA TODAY Ohio reporter Zach Tuggle about an Ohio family's hunting traditions, featuring the mother-daughter hunting team of Kelly and Sarah Schott. The Schotts hunt together all across the state, including at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge in Oak Harbor and Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area in Sandusky County. While they never know ahead of time what they will be preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, one thing is for sure, it's never going to be a store-bought turkey.

In sports, reporter Matt Horn writes about Fremont Ross urban intervention specialist Alysha Nye's new study table, which helps the Little Giants football players score big on the field and in the classroom.

Horn will also reveal the football players named to the News-Messenger/News Herald's offensive and defensive teams of the year.

But there's more.

The Wednesday edition will feature a 12-page broadsheet section with topics such as food, a gift guide, puzzles and games including a reader favorite — the giant two-page crossword.

Please note, the Thursday edition of The News-Messenger will have more holiday features but will be an e-Newspaper only, available to all subscribers on smartphones, tablets, and computers.

I hope you enjoy the extra features in Wednesday's paper, and our team at The News-Messenger wishes each and every one of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
