Comings and Goings: Bed and Breakfast opens in Spring Grove area, local plant shop closing

Terra Farms, a pick-your-own flower farm in the Spring Grove area, has opened a bed and breakfast.

The Inn at Terra Farms is a restored log home, circa 1830s. Owners Andy and Loni Snyder restored the space with the aim of creating a luxurious place to stay that spotlights the region’s rich agricultural opportunities.

“Too many folks think farms are just for corn and soybeans,” Andy Snyder said in a news release. “There’s so much more to it. Our acres of lush flowers prove it.”

The Snyders bought the 38-acre farm in 2018 and started small, with less than a quarter acre of snapdragons, zinnias and dahlias. In 2020, the family bought the neighboring 10-acre property to expand their flower fields and restore its farmhouse.

The Snyders rent out individual rooms or the whole house and serve a traditional breakfast each morning.

“Our goal is to show people that farming and rural life isn’t dead,” Loni Snyder said in a news release. “We want to show the luxurious side of an important American heritage. So many people said this couldn’t be done, especially with a woman out front on the farm. But once they see our product and talk to our customers, they start to change their tune. We’re proving that new things are possible. This farm will be a farm for a long time. That’s really cool.”

The Inn at Terra Farms is at 2605 Buffalo Valley Road, Spring Grove. For more information, call the farm at 717-515-4145 or visit online at terrafarmsandfield.com.
