Hyatt Commercial, a commercial real estate brokerage firm headquartered in Annapolis, recently announced the successful negotiation of a 12,000-square-foot lease in Hagerstown to an eye doctor practice.

The tenant, Cumberland Valley Retina Consultants is set to occupy the building at 1800 Dual Highway in March, according to a news release from Hyatt. The new office will accommodate Cumberland Valley's expanding practice and offer more parking, enhancing the overall experience for both patients and staff.

The building is LEED Certified Green Silver and located 1 1/2 miles from Meritus Health as well as the under construction Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, according to the release.

"We are proud to represent Ghattas Enterprises, a leading developer in Washington County, in this transaction, providing marketing and medical leasing expertise," said Treva Ghattas, senior sales and leasing associate at Hyatt Commercial, in the release. “This transaction involved converting a standard office into a medical practice, showcasing the landlord's innovative approach.”

This is Hyatt’s first transaction in Washington County. In addition to Ghattas, Laurie Zuiderhof represented the landlord.

O'Neill Physical Therapy rebrands, to reopen as Blue Ridge Physical and Hand Therapy

A physical therapy business in Hagerstown has rebranded and expanded under new ownership and is planning an open house this month.

The former O’Neill Physical Therapy Services will have a grand re-opening as Blue Ridge Physical and Hand Therapy from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 17 at 227 N. Cleveland Ave. in Hagerstown.

"O’Neill Physical Therapy has humbly served the Hagerstown, MD area for the past 41 years with an impeccable reputation of providing its patients with excellent care," said new owner Todd M. Anderson in a letter announcing the changes. "As Blue Ridge Physical and Hand Therapy, we promise to continue to serve the community and provide its patients with the best possible care available."

The revamped business will treat a variety of orthopedic conditions, including back and neck pain; neurologic conditions; geriatric conditions; deconditioning; work hardening; pelvic floor PT; lymphedema; and hand and upper extremity therapy, according to the letter. It will have one of only two certified hand therapists in Washington County, plus two licensed therapists that are also massage therapists.

"We are working on expanding to offer personal training in the near future," Anderson said in the letter.

Meritus Health behavioral and community health director appointed to state commission

Allen Twigg, Meritus Health executive director of behavioral and community health, has been appointed by Gov. Wes Moore to serve on the state’s Commission on Public Health, according to a news release from Meritus.

Twigg is the third Meritus Health leader to serve on governor-appointed commissions. Dave Lehr, chief strategy officer, serves on the Community Health Resources Commission, and Maulik Joshi, president and CEO, serves on the Health Services Cost Review Commission.

The Commission on Public Health was formed by the Maryland General Assembly on June 1 to conduct an assessment of the foundational public health capabilities of the Maryland Department of Health and local health departments. It is to recommend how to improve the delivery of foundational public health services in Maryland.

“I am honored to serve on this commission and will work hard to find opportunities to improve public health services across Maryland,” Twigg said. “I’ve seen the positive impact on the health of community when you harness the power of collaboration and working together.”

South Central Community Action Programs CEO named Anti-Poverty Advocate of the Year

Megan Shreve, CEO of South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP) for the past 18 years, has been named Anti-Poverty Advocate of the Year by the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania.

The award recognizes her advocacy and leadership in support of anti-poverty and community development programs in Franklin and Adams counties.

Her leadership has been instrumental in the organization's ability to provide a range of services aimed at economic security and whole family well-being including food pantries, The Gleaning Project, housing and homeless services, child-care subsidies, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) services, family services and case management and Weatherization.

SCCAP also is involved in advocacy and work on issues such as food security, affordable housing, economic mobility and reentry services.

As the board chair of the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania along with other regional and statewide work, she has leveraged her influence to shape statewide policies and strategies aimed at reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
