Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karatedo Kobudo Academy slices the ribbon

Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karatedo Kobudo Academy recently moved to a new home.

The martial arts school is now at 241 Prospect Ave., Suite B, moving from its old address on North Potomac Street, according to Eric and Adrienne Perkins, who own the school along with their daughter, April.

"This new location will offer more room for classes, more class days and times, additional types of classes such as Suikendo Kickboxing, Kobudo, and self defense," the Perkinses wrote in an email, adding the main style taught is Yamashita Shorin Ryu along with Matayoshi Kobudo and Suikendo.

"We will also have the opportunity to do private lessons, karate birthday parties, parents' night out, sparring events, etc. We may also be able to bring well known martial artists to the area for teaching/training seminars."

Alexander House in Hagerstown to formally reopen

The NHP Foundation is opening the doors to the newly renovated Alexander House at noon on Monday, Sept. 11, at the building, 7 E. Washington St., on Public Square.

The 10-story property in the center of downtown Hagerstown offers 95 fully renovated apartments to qualified residents, according to a news release from the City of Hagerstown Department of Community and Economic Development.

The historic renovation also brings new ground-floor retail to the town square.

"NHPF is committed to the creation and preservation of sustainable, affordable housing, resulting in economic stability for citizens and benefiting communities," the news release states.
