Comings and Goings: Soup shop opens - and a large industrial park is underway in York

With fall right around the corner, you may be getting a craving for some warm, savory soup. If so, you're in luck: Simmers is open.

Simmers offers 16 soups, build-your-own garden salads and ready-to-go salads, including chicken, ham, seafood, tuna and macaroni. They also offer mixed fruit and cold drinks. Some of the soup flavors include Maryland crab, Italian wedding, beef vegetable, chicken gumbo, roasted chicken noodle, sausage with turkey and kale, butternut squash and apple, chicken corn, potato and bacon, minestrone, New England clam chowder and more.

Simmers is located in the North Hanover Mall at the former Friendly's location, 1080 Carlisle Street, Hanover. The hours of operation are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. for dine-in or grab and go.

Expressway Commerce Center: 550 Willow Springs, York

A joint venture of PCCP, LLC, a real estate finance and investment management firm focused on commercial real estate debt and equity investments, and MRP Industrial, a privately held real estate company focused on the entitlement, acquisition, development and leasing of industrial real estate, has acquired a 57-acre site for the development of Expressway Commerce Center, a speculative two-building industrial park totaling 674,000 square feet in York. The fully entitled project has now begun construction with completion anticipated for late 2024. The project will include a 403,000-square feet rear-load building and a 271,000-square feet rear-load building. Both facilities will feature 36’ clear heights and a combined 563 car parking spaces and 175 trailer parking spaces.

The property is located 20 miles south of Harrisburg, and two miles from I-83 with access via Willow Spring Lane. The property’s immediate area contains tenants such as GameStop, Americold, Harley Davidson, L’Oreal, Bayer and Starbucks.

U-Haul Co.: 1781 W. Market St., York

U-Haul Co. of Pennsylvania has announced that A Mart is now a U-Haul neighborhood dealer. A Mart will offer essential services such as U-Haul trucks, towing equipment, support rental items and in-store pickup for boxes.

Business hours are 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. daily.

Brixx Pizza & Chixx: 161 W. Jackson St.

Brixx Pizza & Chixx, owned and operated by the owners of Parma Pizza and Grill, opened Aug. 1

The restaurant offers pizza, roasted chicken tenders, stromboli, chili, cornbread, coleslaw and much more. The eatery only offers takeout or delivery, and it is open daily at 11 a.m. It closes at midnight on weeknights and at 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Hanover

Dolphin & Anchor Pub: 13 Center Square, Hanover

Aldus Brewery Company is moving to downtown Hanover in October and will be under the new name Dolphin & Anchor Pub. The new location will feature more beer taps, a variety of cocktail options, game room, dining area, an outside patio, a 554-square-foot multipurpose room, live music, special events and a full food menu.

The City of York is looking to revise its procurement policies to benefit small business enterprises located within city limits. As part of this, small business enterprises can complete a survey, which will be used to determine what a typical “small business enterprise” in York looks like.

The survey can be found on the City of York website at yorkcity.org. Scroll down and click the yellow “Take the Survey” button found on the purple field.
