Week 12 was a rough one for sports bettors as tight lines throughout the league made it difficult to navigate the gambling landscape. Only three of the 15 games had a point spread greater than four points.

Favorites finished 7-8 against the spread. Through 180 games this season, underdogs now hold a 101-78-1 record against the spread.

One interesting storyline has been the saga involving the winless Detroit Lions. With their 2-point loss on Thanksgiving Day, the Lions dropped to 0-10-1 on the season. But they are now 7-4 against the spread and 8-3 against the point total. If you had taken the Lions, and the under, in each of their 11 games this season, you would have an incredible record of 15-7 in those wagers.

Last week’s picks

Two-team teaser

  • TITANS (+7) at Patriots - (LOSS)

  • UNDER (43.5) Titans at Patriots: (WIN)

COLTS (+3.5) vs. Buccaneers: The Colts were inept at protecting the football as they logged an inexcusable five turnovers. Buccaneers 38, Colts 31 - (LOSS)

CHARGERS (-2.5) at Broncos: Denver pulled off another upset on the back of their running game. Broncos 28, Chargers 13 - (LOSS)

Prop bet

  • OVER (103.5) Combined rushing and receiving yards by Dalvin Cook: This was the epitome of a bad beat: 39 rushing yards and 64 receiving yards for 103 total - (LOSS)

This week’s picks

Six-team moneyline parlay (+261)

  • BUCCANEERS, CARDINALS, COLTS, VIKINGS, RAMS, CHIEFS - With a ton of heavy favorites on the board this week, it’s time to put together an old-school moneyline parlay. Shop around to find the best juice available.

CARDINALS (-7) at Bears: The Cardinals are coming off a bye week and are finally getting close to being fully healthy. If Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins are both ready to suit up, the Bears are going to have a difficult time. They are 4-7 against the spread this season while the Cardinals are 6-0 on the road against the spread. Rain is in the forecast and, frankly, that’s the only variable that can prevent a cover for Arizona.

UNDER (50.5) Chargers at Bengals: The Chargers are last in the NFL against the run. This will produce a game script built around Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon. Cincinnati is 2-4 at home against the total while the Chargers are 4-7 overall against the total. Look for the Bengals to eat plenty of clock and keep this total on the low side.

OVER (42.5) Patriots at Bills: The Patriots are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, and have surged to take over the No. 2 seed in the AFC. This division battle is huge for both teams in terms of playoff seedings and earning a possible home playoff game. Look for the Bills to get hot early and force the Patriots to step outside their normal conservative game plan.

Prop bet

  • OVER (306.5) Combined passing and rushing yards by Lamar Jackson - Ravens at Steelers: Jackson has struggled in his last two games and is set up for a huge rebound in this AFC rivalry. Jackson has eclipsed this total in seven of his 10 games this season.
