Commissioner of Canada pro basketball league quits

OSHAWA, Ontario (AP) — Commissioner John Kennedy of the National Basketball League of Canada has quit because of a family emergency days after the end of the inaugural season.

League President Andre Levingston announced the move in a statement Thursday but did not elaborate, saying only that the "thoughts and prayers" of the league were with Kennedy.

The season concluded Sunday with the London Lightning defeating the Halifax Rainmen in a best-of-five series. The league has seven teams across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario.

Levingston said the league is looking for a new commissioner.
