Commissioners address general housekeeping items

Jul. 6—General housekeeping items were the focus of the Anderson County Commissioners Court meeting on Wednesday, July 6.

The court approved the purchase of three utility blowers and three 4000 CFM blowers from Northern Tool and Equipment for the county jail. These portable blowers will have several functions for the jail, including the circulation of air in the jail, quickly drying the floors after mopping and on days of extreme humidity and to help dissipate smoke should there ever be another cell fire.

On Saturday, May 21 a 25-year-old inmate started a fire in a cell at the jail. Flores said the jail's fire alarm system quickly alerted his staff and the fire suppression equipment helped contain the blaze until it could be put completely out.

The smoke from the fire was dissipated by the facilities post-fire smoke purge system, but it took a while to have the smokey air cleared out.

The Commissioners approved the declaration of seven Chevrolets, two Buicks, one Jeep and one Toyota as surplus for the Sheriff's Office to be sold at auction.

Without the proper invoicing, the court tabled action for a third time on a payment to DACO Fire Equipment for 15 — 4500 PSI/30 Minute Blue Cylinders (full) at a total cost of $10,410 to be paid with American Rescue Plan Act Funds for the 84 East Volunteer Fire Department.

The court approved the use of $325,000 of the American Rescue Plan Act funds to purchase fuel and construction materials to be divided amongst the four of the Anderson County Road and Bridge Departments in specified amounts, as well as $30,000 for fuel for the Sheriff's Office.

During the meeting the Commissioners also approved:

—the consent agenda items with an amendment to the payment of a bill,

—payment in the amount of $812.50 for the repair of holes in the concrete floor at the Agriculture Building,

—a bid on the estimate for the final cleaning of the Agriculture Building from Super H Staffing for $2,187.50,

—a lease agreement between Precinct 4 Road and Bridge Department and Motion Machinery for a reclaimer at a cost of $9,000 a month,

—authorization for the County Clerk to use American Rescue Plan Act Funds for a Deed of Trust Project,

—accepting the Medical Reserve Corps COVID-19 Rise Grant Award and an adoption of its budget,

—an addendum to the contract between Anderson County and Slocum Volunteer Fire Department for a one-time allotment in the amount of $50,000 for equipment, supplies and repair of existing equipment, to be paid with American Rescue Act Funds,

—and the cancellation of the regular Commissioners Court meeting set for July 11.
