Commissioners meet with Mid-East CTC students for Dude, Be Kind Week

BUFFALO — The Guernsey County commissioners helped Mid-East Career and Technology Centers (CTC) spread kindness this week by proclaiming Feb. 11 to 17 as Dude, Be Kind Week in Guernsey County.

The Guernsey County Commissioners visited the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Buffalo Campus Monday to present their Dude, Be Kind Week proclamation to SADD Adviser Tracy Brown and club members. Shown, from left, are Commissioner Dave Wilson, Tracy Brown, Mackenzie Hupp, Hayden Roffee, Eliva Borton, Commissioner Jack Marlin and Commissioner Skip Gardner.

Commissioners Skip Gardner, Jack Marlin and Dave Wilson presented the proclamation to the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Adviser Tracy Brown and club members Mackenzie Hupp, Hayden Roffee and Eliyah Borton on Monday. As Marlin read the proclamation to the students, he emphasized the section that said, "...we ask all citizens of this community to observe and take part in activities recognizing the importance of kindness in our lives, our families and our county."

The goal of the week is to encourage everyone to focus on how much kindness matters in the community. The district hopes to start conversations and deliver activities that will promote kindness, gratitude and inclusiveness throughout the four counties they serve and beyond. They will do this through daily themes to focus their efforts.

The Guernsey County and Muskingum County commissioners will light the courthouses yellow in honor of Dude, Be Kind Week.

Mid-East students offer the following suggestions to get involved:

  • Businesses and agencies can place a message on signs to promote kindness. They also can come up with ways to be kind to customers and suppliers.

  • Schools can think of ways for students and staff members to do kind things around themes for each day of the week and show their support with a message on outdoor signs.

  • Families can brainstorm themes with their children about ways to spread kindness.

  • Churches can encourage congregations to do kind things.

Mid-East asks if anyone participates in Dude, Be Kind Week to post their acts of kindness on social media using the hashtag #dbk2024.
