Two bids were opened for a guardrail installation and upgrade project when the Ashland County commissioner met Thursday.

The pair of bids were submitted by Lake Erie Construction from Norwalk and BDK Construction of Pomeroy.

“Every year we have a project where we improve the guardrails we have in the county,” said county Engineer Ed Meixner before bids were opened. “The money comes from the federal government and we try to keep the cost of those projects under $300,000. Anything under $300,000, the government, through ODOT, will pay for that.”

Lake Erie Construction’s bid was $296,550 and BDK Construction’s bid was $302,245.75.

Meixner said the project estimate was set at $288,641.88.

He also said the project would cover five townships at 10 locations. Guardrails to be upgraded range in length from just under 19 feet to 1,137.5 feet.
