Commissioners publish 2023 fair results

Nov. 7—GREENSBURG — The Decatur County Commissioners recently published the Fair Income and Expense Report for the 2023 Decatur County 4-H Fair.

The gross income for the five day event was $122,593.40.

With expenses listed at $71,273.36, the event made a net profit of $51,320.04.

The biggest expense was the WBI Tractor Pull, with carnival rides the biggest moneymaker.

Parking brought in $6,096, the busiest days being Sunday and Tuesday.

The water bill was $2,671.15 and the electric bill was $9,795.96.

A bittersweet expense was the brass plaque from Kramer Kreations for $24. The plaque went on the new vinyl bench installed in memory of Decatur County Commissioner Chuck Emsweller, who died earlier this year.

One of the largest fair parades in recent history, the 2023 Decatur County 4-H Fair Parade cost $146.98.

Decatur County Commissioner Mark Koors was pleased with the event.

"This year's fair was an awesome success due to several factors: great weather, good entertainment and very generous sponsors," he said.

Organizer of the truck drags and long-time event planner for the track Jim Ponsler said that the track was in great shape for truck drags.

"Scott Best does a good job working the track up for events," Ponsler said. "He takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows."
