Iran has considered an assassination attempt against the US ambassador to South Africa as a retaliatory measure against the US for its drone strike in January that killed Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani. The ambassador, Lana Marks, a longtime friend of Donald Trump who was unanimously confirmed to her post by the Senate in 2019, has been informed of the potential plot, Politico reported, citing two anonymous sources, one of whom was “familiar with the issue” or another who had seen intelligence suggesting the potential assassination. For months, Iran has been weighing different ways to retaliate against the American drone strike that took out Mr Soleimani and at least six others in Iraq on 3 January.

Donald Trump Getty Images If President Donald Trump loses re-election, he could find himself the first ex-president to be charged with a crime. More than a dozen investigations are already under way against Trump and his associates, so his potential legal exposure is "breathtaking," according to New York Magazine columnist Jeff Wise. "You might think, given all the crimes Trump has bragged about committing during his time in office, that the primary path to prosecuting him would involve the U.S. Justice Department," Wise wrote.

The New York Times/Redux If the highway that connected the residential communities and business district of your town collapsed, the effects on the local economy would be immediate and obvious. If all public transportation were suddenly rerouted away from the office buildings in your town, business leaders and policymakers alike would respond quickly to the predictable ripple effects in the area's workforce and revenue. It is well understood that infrastructure decisions like public roads and transportation are the foundation on which local economies grow.
Scientists at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research are advancing a vaccine that may be able to prevent strains of the common cold in the future. But their immediate concern is the imminent flu season because nearly seven months since receiving their first samples of the novel coronavirus from a Washington state patient, they still don't know whether catching the flu could increase the chances of getting COVID-19. When this virus emerged, it was sort of coming toward the tail end of the flu season.
