Commodores win third straight in Pensacola

The Gulf Coast men's basketball team won its third game in as many days on Wednesday afternoon in Pensacola, knocking off No. 15 Lamar State-Port Arthur 85-81.

With the win, the Commodores take a 7-2 record into the holiday break before returning to action Dec. 3-4 for the Chipola Classic with games against South Georgia Tech and Georgia Highlands.

On Wednesday, Gulf Coast used a dominant second-half performance to erase a nine-point first-half deficit, outscoring Lamar State 52-39 after the break thanks to 50 percent shooting from the floor and 8 of 16 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

Jammy Pierre-Louis led the Commodores with 27 points on 11 of 20 from the field and 5 of 11 from deep, while Chase Forte added 16 points, five, rebounds, and nine assists. Tauris Watson had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Treshawn Wilson scored 12 points.

On Tuesday, Gulf Coast notched a 71-68 victory over No. 19 Odessa, with Pierre-Louis again leading the offense with 17 points, followed by Watson with 13 points, and Forte with 12 points.

The Commodores started the week with a 68-56 victory over Southern Arkansas University Tech, which is ranked No. 15 in the Division-II poll. The Commodores also overcame a first-half deficit in that one, winning the second half 43-26 to pull away.

Pierre-Louis was the top scorer with 17 points on 5 of 8 from the 3-point line, with Watson adding 16 points and six rebounds. Forte had 10 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, while Tay Hall added eight points and five rebounds.
