Communities plan for parades, fireworks this Fourth of July

Multiple events planned in Fremont area

FREMONT — The city and community have an assortment of activities scheduled this year to celebrate Independence Day.

Fireworks return downtown from 10 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Fremont. Parking will be available at Walsh and Rodger Young Park.

The city will again host its traditional Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Downtown Fremont Car Show

There will be a car show from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday with trophies and dash plaques and goodie bags for the first 150 registrants. Registration is free. Pre-register for the show by calling or texting 567-342-4758 by Thursday. Cars should enter on Front Street from State Street. Awards and trophies will be awarded at 7:45 p.m.

At 6 p.m., Down Thyme Cafe will host the Fremont Frankfurter Eating Contest at Front and Garrison streets. Entry forms are available at the cafe or email terri.cassel@moonshineentertainment.net. For more information call 419-332-8696.

American PAGE, Young Republicans plan July 4 rally

On July 4, American Patriots Against Government Excess (American PAGE) will be sharing their Fourth of July Rally with the Sandusky-Ottawa County Young Republicans with the latter group being hosts of this and future events.

This event kicks off at 11 a.m. and will end around 1 p.m. in Birchard Park.

Andrew Dean will perform on July 4. There will be free popcorn, plus hot dogs and soft drinks available. American PAGE will unveil its current public service project and accept donations.

There will also be auction items, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. Area political candidates and officer holders have been invited. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.

Celebrate with free patriotic concert at Hayes Presidential

On July 4, a patriotic concert will be performed by the Toledo Concert Band, featuring members of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, on the verandah of the historic Hayes Home.

The Hayes Presidential Library and Museums’ annual Independence Day Concert is from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Admission is free. Concert-goers are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the expansive lawn of the Hayes Home at Spiegel Grove, the estate of President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes.

The concert will also be broadcast on WGTE radio FM 91 at 7 p.m. July 8, and on WGTE HDTV at 6:30 p.m. July 10. Viewers can listen on both dates at wgte.org and on the WGTE app.

The Toledo Concert Band will perform a variety of songs, including Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” while Civil War reenactors fire cannons in sync with the music.

Bruce Moss is the conductor, and Brad Cresswell, classical music host for WGTE FM 91, is the announcer. Jennifer McFarland Barrett, president of the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums board and descendant of President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes, will read the Declaration of Independence.

Food trucks Kitchen 212 and Smyles Icy Treats will sell snacks and lunch on-site.

Parking is available on the grounds, weather-permitting. Overflow parking is available on the street and in ProMedica Memorial Hospital’s parking lots at Buildings A and B, at 605 Third Ave. Hayes Presidential is a short walk to the east of the hospital parking lots.

Clyde has Sunday fireworks, park activities set

CLYDE — Clyde Community Fireworks will be at dusk Sunday at  246 South St, Clyde Community Park.

There many great locations to view from including Clyde Eagles, McPherson Middle School, Limerick Park, Clyde High School. Free of charge.

Konner Garcia, city recreation director, said activities will begin at 5 p.m. in Community Park with inflatable bounce houses from Journey Family Fun Center in Fremont. Kids games will be held in the ball diamond area.

TAZE Music will have a DJ playing from 5 to 9 p.m.

Garcia said activities will be nearly the same as what the city sponsored before COVID-19.

Church of God hosts free special events

CLYDE — Clyde Ohio Church of God will be holding free special events from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 1461 S. Main St. There will be bounce houses, games, food and face painting.

Green Springs kicks off with parade, plus hosts badminton, fire works

GREEN SPRINGS — The village will be celebrating Independence Day on Saturday.

The annual parade will line up at Green Springs Elementary School and kick off at 5 p.m. and travel the traditional route south on Broadway, according to village councilman Bill Young.

Entries are still being accepted for the parade. Call Young at 419-639-3924 before the lineup.

Fireworks will be held that day at dusk and are sponsored by the Green Springs VFW and others in the community.

The Green Springs Volunteer Fire Department will open the beer tents at 7 p.m. and the entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight will be The Bar Code Band. There will be food vendors and concessions at the park.

This year a Badminton Tournament will be held for teams and singles. The event is being coordinated by Brad Farrar. It is set for 5 p.m. Entry fee will be $25 per team and $10 per person if playing singles. It will be a double elimination style tournament. Winner takes half the pot with the other half going back to the Green Springs Firework Committee.

Stemtown Museum curator Brenda Stultz will be selling water in the park as a museum fundraiser.

Fireworks planned for dusk in Oak Harbor

OAK HARBOR — The Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce will hold its Independence Day Celebration from 5 p.m. through dusk on Sunday at the Mill Street Riverfront.

The night will end with fireworks at dusk.

The chamber will open the pop and beer tent at 5 p.m. and concessions also will open.

The Haywire Band will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Other activities include Class A Dance performing at 5:30 p.m. and Harbor Lites performing at 6:30 p.m.

The Royal Duck Race is set for 8 p.m.

Port Clinton to host Red, White and Vroom

PORT CLINTON — The community is again hosting its annual Firecracker Cutie Contest on the Fourth of July and fireworks plus much more.

The Red, White and Vroom celebration begins with the Star Spangled Squirt Gun 5K Run-Walk at 9 a.m. July 4 with registration starting at 8 a.m. at the Jefferson St. Pavilion. Registration is $30 on the morning of the race.

The Fire Cracker Cuties, Princess, Queen and Ms./Mrs. plus Most Photogenic contests will be at noon at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Contestants are asked to wear red, white and blue. The crowning will be after the contests. Applications are available at Mary's Blossom Shop, Lily and Gert's, Coffee express, Catawba Clean Scene, Ida Public Library, Truth Resale, and on the Port Clinton Area 4th of July Celebration page.

The Food Truck Feast will be 3 to 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church at Second and Adams streets.

From 3 to 7 p.m. there will be a Classic Car, Truck and Cycle Show in the 100 and 200 block of Adams Street. Registration is $5 per vehicle.

The Ice Cream Social is also at the church from 3 to 7 p.m.

The Freedom Community Choir Concert will be 7 p.m. at Trinity UMC as well.

A Family Dance Party will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. at Waterworks Park featuring DJ Von and the PC Lion's Club Food Wagon.

Then at 8:30 p.m. the United Way of Ottawa County will host the Incredible Rubber Duck Race at the Derby Pond in Waterworks Park. Purchase a duck by calling 419-734-6645.

The evening then wraps up with fireworks at dusk.

Woodville plans 3-day celebration

WOODVILLE — The Village Fourth of July Celebration begins Wednesday June 29 and runs through 10 p.m. Saturday when the fireworks will be set off.

Wednesday activities include the beer tent opening at 5 p.m. and live entertainment at Solomon Lutheran Church at 7 p.m.

At 5 p.m. Thursday,  the midway opens and there is a car show in the orchard at 5 p.m. There will be a dance party at 7 p.m. with A and J Sound Mobile DJ Service at the beer tent.

The midway reopens at 5 p.m. Friday, and the 5K at 7:30 p.m. The Kids One Mile Fun Run will be at 7:04 p.m. Dem Bonz will perform on the front stage at 6 p.m. and Wolf Creek Project performs in the beer tent at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the parade kicks off at noon. The parade route will begin on Cherry Street, include parts of College Avenue and Erie Street, and will end back at the park. The midway also opens at noon with Glittering Stars Dance Company on stage at 1 p.m.

The Woodville/Woodmore High School Alumni Reunion will begin at 2 p.m. in the beer tent Saturday. The annual bicycle drawing will be at 5 p.m. More live entertainment is set for the evening with Kindred Soul on the front stage at 6 and Dem Bonz in the beer tent at 7:30 p.m. The night wraps up with fireworks.

Cedar Point's Light Up The Point will be July 4

SANDUSKY — The show starts at 10 p.m. July 4 (weather permitting), but the fun begins before even the smallest spark glows in the sky.

Just before the fireworks, Cedar Point is serving up a buffet in the Lakeside Pavilion from 8 to 10 p.m., and it’s all included with a Light Up the Point VIP ticket.
