Community Band's free Christmas concert is Dec. 11 at ORHS

Now is the time to make your plans to ring in the holiday season with the Oak Ridge Community Band’s Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center. The show will begin at 3:30 and is a family-friendly event. As with all the Community Band concerts, there is no admission fee.

Shaun Salem, director of the Community Band, has planned a program of entertaining Christmas numbers that includes Gustav Holst’s “Christmas Day – a Fantasy of Old Carols,” Frank Lavender’s “A Home Alone Christmas,” and Johann Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” The band will also perform Irving Berlin’s lovely “White Christmas,” Leroy Anderson’s ever popular “Sleigh Ride,” and Bill Byers’ arrangement of “Christmas Spectacular!” featuring “We Three Kings” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Silent Night,” “Deck the Halls,” “Away in a Manger,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Joy to the World.”

Christmas carol books will be distributed to the audience for singing familiar and beloved carols accompanied by the band.

The Oak Ridge Community Band will also be performing at the Oak Ridge Christmas Tree Lighting and at some area assisted living facilities during the holidays.

The Oak Ridge Community Band has been in existence since 1944 and is proud of its long history of presenting entertaining concerts to Oak Ridge citizens.
