Community Bank closing branches in Andover, Angelica on Sept. 30

Community Bank N.A. is shuttering two more branches in Allegany County following the closure of two other offices in the county last year.

The branches in Andover and Angelica will close Sept. 30, Hal Wentworth, Community Bank senior vice president, Retail Banking, said in a statement.

"It is not a choice that we made lightly; however, we see this change as the best way to efficiently provide services to our customers," Wentworth said. "We will be happy to help our customers with their banking needs at any neighboring Community Bank location.

"Customers also have our digital tools and telephone banking options available, which allow customers to bank from anywhere, anytime."

Andover, Angelica branches already had limited hours

Both the Andover and Angelica branches have been operating with reduced hours. The Andover branch, located at 38 South Main Street, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Angelica branch, at 32-34 West Main St., is currently open on Tuesday and Thursday.

Services at the Angelica branch will consolidate with the Community Bank branch in neighboring Belfast. Angelica customers are eligible for a one-year free safe deposit box and night depository access at another branch, Community Bank said in statement.

The Angelica Booster News reported that at least 200 people signed a petition protesting the closure.

In a letter to Andover customers, Wentworth noted that Community Bank continues to operate branches in the nearby communities of Alfred and Wellsville.

"We’re extremely grateful for the ability to serve the Andover community and look forward to continuing to assist our Andover customers with their banking needs through our digital platforms and from nearby branch locations," Wentworth said.
