Lenawee County hosting town hall Thursday to help create opioid action plan

ADRIAN — Lenawee County is having a town hall for county residents this week to help the county develop its action plan to combat the opioid epidemic.

It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Lenawee Intermediate School District Tech Center at 1372 N. Main St. in Adrian.

The town hall is an opportunity for residents to contribute their thoughts and ideas to the action plan being developed by Lenawee County to determine how the opioid settlement monies should be spent. Lenawee County has started to receive opioid settlement monies and will continue to do so until 2040.

The featured speaker for the event is Eric Hipple, a former Detroit Lions quarterback. Hipple’s NFL accomplishments include two playoff bids, a divisional championship and the Detroit Lions most valuable player award for the 1981 season.

After his 15-year-old son’s suicide, Hipple fell into a downward spiral. Bankrupt and jailed for drunken driving, he found the strength to seek therapy for his own depression. Since then, he has devoted his life to building awareness and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win a personalized copy of Hipple’s book, “Real Men Do Cry,” a story of tackling depression and surviving suicide loss.

Residents are allowed to bring up to 10 tires per vehicle. Clean passenger vehicle and light truck tires will be collected for $2 each. Motorcycle tires will be collected for $1 each.

Tires from commercial sources will not be accepted. Leaving tires after hours is illegal dumping, which is a punishable offense, the county said in a news release.
