Inter-Connections sponsors various support groups

ADRIAN — Inter-Connections is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. at 209 W. Maumee St. near downtown Adrian. The center offers free support groups.

The Smoking Cessation Group meets from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, and a Depression Support Group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Thursday groups include the Healthy Living Group from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and the Bipolar Support Group from 3 to 4 p.m.

Adrian Noon Rotary, others to conduct riverbank cleanup

ADRIAN — As part of Rotary International’s efforts to ensure clean water in communities both locally and nationally, the Adrian Noon Rotary Club is hosting a cleanup project this week along the River Raisin in Adrian, and the public is invited to lend a hand.

The project will be from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 17, at Trestle Park behind the Lenawee County Jail’s parking lot at 302 W. Hunt St. Volunteers are encouraged to enter Hunt Street at the Subway restaurant off North Main Street and go down two blocks. Motorists should look for the welcome tent near the parking lot of the park.

Adrian Noon Rotary is working with the city of Adrian, Adrian College and the River Raisin Watershed Council on the riverbank cleanup.

All skills levels are welcome, a flyer said, and all volunteers are also welcome — not just Rotarians.

Ice cream social on Thursday to benefit Clayton playground project

CLAYTON — Ice cream and root beer floats will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, during an ice cream social benefit to raise funds for a playground park project in Clayton.

The ice cream social will be at Clayton Park, which is south of town on State Street. There is no charge to enjoy the sweet treats, but donations will be accepted for the playground project.

The women of the Clayton United Methodist Church have organized the ice cream social, a flyer said.

Clayton Village Council trustee Brad Terrill has spearheaded the improvements at the park, which date back to early 2022.

‘Bowling to Make a Difference’ kicks off 2023 Lenawee Cares campaign

ADRIAN — Lenawee Cares, which is part of the Lenawee Community Foundation and serves as an annual fundraising campaign for the foundation, will kick off its 2023 campaign with a “Bowling to Make a Difference” event starting 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

The event will be at the Lenawee Recreation Bowling Center/ZZ’s Sports Bar & Grill, 520 College Ave., Adrian. People are welcome to join the Lenawee Community Foundation for dinner and bowling. Twenty percent of the proceeds go toward Lenawee Cares.

Bowling teams can consist of as many as five members. Team registration is $125. Individuals can bowl for $25 per person.

Donations, silent auctions and drink specials are some of the other attractions for Saturday’s campaign kickoff, the community foundation said in a news release.

Implemented in 2016, Lenawee Cares provides grants and designations to local nonprofits with a specific focus of meeting the basic needs of individuals in the Lenawee County community. Donations are accepted each fall and grant recipients are selected the following spring.

‘Jeopardy!’ Night coming to Tecumseh District Library

TECUMSEH — Community members will be able to test their knowledge as “Jeopardy!” contestants and see if they have what it takes to be the next “Jeopardy!” champion at the Tecumseh District Library.

“’Jeopardy!’ Night at the TDL” is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22. There is no cost for individuals or teams to attend, but registration is required. Participants wanting to compete against other contestants must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the program to register, a news release from the library said.

The host of the quiz show will be Tecumseh’s own Dana Schumacher-Schmidt, who appeared on two episodes of “Jeopardy!” that aired in April 2021. In her two appearances she won $22,600.

If players want to compete as a team, they must be in groups of two or three players, the library said.

Winning teams or individuals will be able to select prizes from the British Tea Garden, Eve and Annie Boutique, and The Vault.
