Clinton Township Public Library sets week’s schedule

CLINTON — The calendar of events for this week at the Clinton Township Public Library, 100 Brown St., has been released by library director Mary Gallup.

The library’s summer reading program has ended but weekly programming and events still continue.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Today: 4 p.m., Pokémon Club meeting; 7 p.m., presentation with author Clif Edwards about his book “Heart Shots” at Clinton United Church of Christ, 300 Tecumseh Road, Clinton.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 8: 11:30 a.m., Storytime themed “Bugs.”

  • Wednesday, Aug. 9: 2 p.m., T(w)een Time: “Pancake Party.”

  • Thursday, Aug. 10: 11:30 a.m., Storytime themed “Bugs”; 2 p.m., Afternoon Book Club meeting to discuss the book “The Book Spy.”

  • Friday, Aug. 11: Noon, Cool Cats Homeschool Group meeting; 2 p.m. Technology Basics class for all skill levels.

Hudson American Legion hosts weekly bingo, euchre

HUDSON — The public is invited to two activities happening weekly at the Hudson American Legion.

Bingo night is Tuesdays at Hannan-Colvin American Legion Post 180, 16113 Cadmus Road. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo sheets are sold at 5:30 p.m. Games start at about 6:30 p.m. Fifteen games will be played, and the final coverall game is worth $500, Leo Oswald, Post 180 adjutant, said. Food is available during the break between the seventh and eighth games.

For those who like euchre, card playing starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Individuals, couples and groups are all invited to participate, Oswald said.

Celebrate Recovery meetings held in Adrian, Tecumseh and Hudson

Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered 12-step recovery program for people of all ages, meets weekly at locations in Adrian, Tecumseh and Hudson.

There are two locations in Adrian offering Celebrate Recovery. One program meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Adrian First Church of the Nazarene, 50 Industrial Court. In Tecumseh, Celebrate Recovery meets every Monday at Covenant Church, 5290 Milwaukee Road. Child care for ages 5-12 and programs for teens are available during the gathering.

Tecumseh District Library’s Walking Club has excursion Wednesday

TECUMSEH — For August, the Tecumseh District Library’s Walking Club will gather from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, and walk through Hidden Lake Gardens, 6214 Monroe Road, Tipton.

The main portion of the walk will be HLG’s trails, a news release from the library said. Participants are asked to meet at the front entrance of the visitors center before heading out to the walk.

Each month, the library’s Walking Club encourages people to meet up with other area walkers to explore local parks, trails and landmarks. Participants can expect to encounter areas of steep terrain, possible trail obstacles and Michigan woodland natural conditions. Walks last 30 to 45 minutes.

Bug spray, appropriate footgear and bottled water are recommended, the library said. There is no cost to participate, and registration is not required. The Walking Club is open to all ages of participants. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

In the event of inclement weather, the walk for August will be canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Lenawee Conservation District's Center for Excellence Field Day is Wednesday

CLAYTON — The Lenawee Conservation District’s 27th annual Center for Excellence Field Day will start at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, with registration at Bakerlads Farm, 13440 Plank Road in Clayton.

RSVPs can be filed with the conservation district office by calling 517-263-7400, ext. 5. The farm is about 2.5 miles northwest of the home farm on Cadmus Road.

The entire day will be spent at the Bakerlads Farm, a news release said. Programming will include an hour-long wagon tour of a systems approach to controlling farmland erosion while mitigating nutrient loss into surface waters.

Sessions will also take place during the wagon tour. Topics include phosphorous reduction in cash-grain operations, new cover-cop information for Michigan growers and soybean test trials for the 2023 crop year.

Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) President Carl Bednarski will be the guest speaker at noon. He is a Tuscola County cash-crop farmer. A Caro resident, Bednarski farms with his wife, Lisa, and their three sons growing corn, dry beans, sugar beets, soybeans and wheat.

Tacos at Post No. 97 in Adrian

ADRIAN — American Legion Post No. 97, 904 N. Main St., Adrian, has tacos and other Mexican food from 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday. Corn tacos are five for $6 in addition to the weekly special.

Paperwork, claims help available for area veterans

ADRIAN — Two local veterans’ organizations have scheduled regular office hours to assist any veteran needing help filing a claim, filling out paperwork or help in general.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Lenawee Chapter 20 service officers have regular hours from noon to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the DAV Hall in Adrian, 141 E. Albert St. Male and female service officers are available. Walk-ins are welcome, or veterans may call 517-265-3993 to make an appointment.

American Legion Post No. 97, 904 N. Main St., Adrian, has office hours for veterans from 3 to 5 p.m. every Thursday at the post. To make an appointment, call 517-260-1858.

TOPS chapter meets weekly in Onsted
