Community Calendar: Christmas Musicale, library events and more

Dec. 29—Superior: The Superior Public Library's Bookworms Book Club for Kids meets at 4 p.m. to discuss "Stepping Stones" by Lucy Knisley. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library.

Superior: The Superior Douglas County YMCA hosts a free drive-thru food distribution event from 10 a.m. to noon in its south entrance driveway. The YMCA has partnered with Every Meal to provide free 4-5 lb. food bags to those in need. Four varieties are available to anyone in need.

Superior: The Holiday Paint Benefit for the Humane Society of Douglas County will be held at 6 p.m., at Aces on 29th, rescheduled from its original date. Join Nanas Paint Nook to paint a whimsical Frosty the Snowman with your favorite dog or cat. The cost to attend is $40 and includes all supplies. Enjoy food and drinks while you paint (at your cost). Net proceeds from the event will go to the humane society. Spots are limited. Register online by searching for

Superior: The Douglas County Historical Society, 1101 John Ave., presents Christmas Musicale at 7 p.m. Stop in to enjoy an evening of holiday music and a silent auction. There will be performances by Born Too Late, Shane Nelson, Tommy Wotruba, Skarlett Woods, Indecent Proposal and more. They decide to put aside their differences and work together to stop the wedding, believing that doing so will keep her from making a dreadful mistake, similar to their own. This movie is rated PG-13 and closed-captions will be enabled.
