Sep. 14—Colleen Fetters Memorial Story Book Walk, Barnum High School Nature Center Trail. Community members are invited to enjoy the nature center trail while reading a story. Grab your mud boots, wagon or snowshoes and get the whole family outdoors to enjoy the story books. From Sept. 15-24, the featured book will be "How to Catch a Unicorn" by Adam Wallace And Andy Elkerton.

Kismet in Carlton Balloon Festival, 2 p.m., Black Bear Casino Resort. The second annual festival will include 12 hot air balloons, food trucks, bounce houses, chain saw artists, helicopter rides and live music. Admission is free.

West End Flourish September Celebration, 11 a.m., Cloquet. The family friendly event celebrating Cloquet's historic West End will feature food trucks, artists, crafters, vendors, musicians, businesses, nonprofit organizations, a car show, and kids games and activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gun Bingo, 11:30 a.m., Four Seasons Sports Complex, Carlton. The auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. Ticket sales start at 12:15 p.m., with bingo to begin at 1 p.m. Only cash will be accepted. No registration is required and participation is on a first come, first served basis. People must be age 21 or older to participate. There will be 10 bingo games for $100, five raffle drawings for five guns with tickets at $10 each. Hot dogs and brats will be for sale, and there will also be a cash bar. Proceeds will benefit the Forgotten Heroes Ranges and Retreat in McGregor.

Special event, 4 p.m., United Methodist Church of Cromwell. The event will include church and chili along with a bonfire, music and fellowship. All are welcome to attend.

Preserving your Harvest, 1-3 p.m., Thomson Town Hall, 25 E. Harney Road, Esko. As summer winds down, gardens are far from idle. Food preservation is a major component in being able to enjoy the spoils of the garden for months to come. Join Extension educators Mercedes Moffett and Troy Salzer, as well as Master Gardener Kathy Rahkola to discuss the basics of food preservation. Learn the importance of what should be preserved in what way, why it's important and watch live demonstrations of a hot water bath and a pressure canner. The cost is $5 at the door.
