Superior: The Lake Superior Ice Festival returns to Barker's Island. Disc golf, the Barker's Island Marina ice carousel, Nemadji Golf Mini-Golf Extravaganza, Superior "Guns N' Hoses" Kubb matchup, the Cenovus snow slide, Sweetly Kismet Candy Store hot air balloon rides, bonfires and s'mores, Midwest Ice Racing Association contests will kick off on Friday. Superior: The Lake Superior Ice Festival's second day will start at 9 a.m. with a Kubb tournament, Krystal Kleer Ice Sculptors, a market and craft fair at Barker's Island Inn. Attendees can also enjoy disc golf; take in Midwest Ice Racing Association and Lake Superior Ice Racing Association matchups; enjoy bonfires and s'mores; snowshoe with the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve; preview the Bong Center's "Unlock the Chest of Heroes" escape room; take a whirl down the Cenovus snow slide; see who wins the Canine King & Queen and the Felines of the Festival contests; take a hot air balloon ride; visit with characters and princesses; and more. Superior: The Superior Douglas County YMCA hosts a free drive-thru food distribution event from 10 a.m. to noon in its south entrance driveway. The YMCA has partnered with Every Meal to provide free 4-5 lb. food bags to those in need. Four varieties are available to anyone in need.

Superior: The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, 305 Harbor View Parkway, will celebrate Four Chaplains Day with a program featuring two local chaplain veterans — Dianna Bell, the first female chaplain to serve in any U.S. service branch, and Darrell Kyle, who was deployed as a chaplain in Southwest Asia in 2010. Superior: Superior Public Library hosts its Lego Club for kids from 4-6 p.m.

Superior: Superior Public Library hosts Storytime for children at 10:30 a.m. Children and their caregivers will hear stories, do crafts and have fun at the library.

Superior: A free basic genealogy seminar will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. Attendees will learn about basic genealogy, best practices, how to start researching their family tree, see examples of genealogy tools that are available on the market and what genealogy resources are available. No computer skills are required to attend, but there will be demonstrations involving computer software driven genealogy tools. Registration required; space is limited. Register

Superior: Superior Public Library hosts Tuesday Tunes from 5-6 p.m. Unstrung Quartet will perform live in the library's atrium. The event is free and open to the public.

Poplar: A workshop on resiliency geared for parents will be held at Northwestern Elementary School beginning at 5:15 p.m. The workshop will explore what resilience is and why it is essential for young people. Resilience training is a way to learn new strategies to promote positive mental health. The adult-only event features a resource fair, light meal and guest speaker Tracy Henegar, human development and relationships educator for the UW-Madison Division of Extension for Douglas and Bayfield counties. Superior: The Small Business Development Center at UW-Superior hosts Superior Visions: Women in Business from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Old Post Office Building, 1401 Tower Ave. The four-week speaker series will showcase women-owned businesses. Superior: The Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma's Marathon host Saturday Morning at the Races at 10 a.m. at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Marcovich Wellness Center. Children age 14 and under can race around the indoor track for free and get a free T-shirt. Brule: The Brule River State Forest hosts a candlelight ski and hike event from 5-8 p.m. Skiiers can choose to travel a relaxing 1-kilometer loop or a more vigorous 5-kilometer route. A non-lit multiuse trail is also open to hikers and snowshoers. Warm up by the fire with a cup of coffee, cocoa or apple cider. Feel free to bring marshmallows to cook over the fire or something to throw on the grill. The heated ski chalet off Afterhours Road just west of Brule will be open to the public.
