Cincinnati has drastically limited the number of community centers being used as warming shelters Friday.

All of Cincinnati's 23 community centers operated by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission were initially slated to remain open, but that number was reduced to three on Friday due to hazardous road conditions, the city said in a news release.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has warned of winds gusting as high as 45 mph, with very cold wind chills as low as 30 degrees below zero.

At those temperatures, frostbite and hypothermia can set in within 30 minutes.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport recorded a 39-degree drop from 44 degrees at 7 p.m. Thursday to 5 degrees at 1 a.m. Friday. CVG has only seen 6-hour temperature drops of 32 degrees or more just nine times since 1948, according to National Weather Service data.

Here is a list of Cincinnati community centers open Friday:

  • Corryville Recreation Center - 2823 Eden Ave.

  • Over-the-Rhine Recreation Center - 1715 Republic St.

  • Price Hill Recreation Center - 959 Hawthorne Ave.

The community centers will be open until 6 p.m.

The CRC plans to open the Price Hill, OTR and Corryville locations as emergency warming centers Saturday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In Colerain Township, White Oak Christian Church and Vineyard Northwest Church will open as warming centers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
