Community First Igloo, newly renovated ice facility opens to the Jacksonville community

The doors to a new ice facility in Jacksonville are open.

The Community First Igloo, in Spring Park, cut the ribbon to their newly renovated facility. It’s on Philips Highway near I-95 and Emerson Street.

Luke Dragon started skating on the ice at the Igloo in the summer of 2021.

He remembered what the facility used to be like.

“Before the old rink it would break sometime and now we have brand new ones that will last for a while,” said Luke.

The inside of the igloo has a new look.

“The goal was to make this the best facility of its kind in the state of Florida,” said Community First Igloo CEO, Andy Kaufmann.

On Tuesday Mayor Lenny Curry joined the Jacksonville Icemen for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the official grand opening.

The facility is the official home of the Jacksonville Icemen.

“This is just a beautiful facility, and the city is glad to be a partner with the Icemen and all that they’ve done over the years,” said Mayor Curry.

The renovations started Aug. 2021 and now they are complete.

There is brand new ice in the two rinks, a bar and restaurant in the center, a pro shop at the front, and an esports game room.

“The whole spirit of this is to have an amazing community center for the whole town of Jacksonville to enjoy,” said Kaufmann.
