The Community Foundation for Crawford County's annual #Giving2sday fundraising event Tuesday will feature the largest amount of matching funds in its history.

The foundation is participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media, for the eighth year. The "2" in the local event's name reflects the way the pool of matching funds set aside by the foundation's board generates a second gift for each donation, according to a news release from the foundation.

"One of the highlights of this year is that the pro-rated matching pool is larger than it has ever been − $35,000," said Lisa Workman, the foundation's president. "There are more funds to choose to give to this year than ever before − 103 to be exact!"

Last year, #Giving2sday raised more than $230,000, a record so far, she said.

"This year our development committee humbly set the goal at $220,000, but of course we would be happy to surpass last year’s total," Workman said.

Catching more fish with a wide net

This year, the foundation’s portion of the pro-rated match has been added to by the Mason Companies, E-Z-Go (a Textron company), Apex Clean Energy and the Hord Family Donor Advised Fund held at the foundation.

“#Giving2sday is coming right on the heels of Community Foundation Week and National Philanthropy Day,” Workman explained in the release. “People give to people, and our #Giving2sday platform allows people to mobilize their unique set of contacts for donations. After all, you can catch more fish when you cast the net wide! We also encourage donors to consider directing a portion of their gift to our Crawford Impact Fund, as that is the fund from which we fund strategic grants in our community.”

The foundation encourages participants to visit www.cfcrawford.org, or cfcrawford.networkforgood.com to create a fundraising page and use the templates provided to email contacts for donations, or post a request on Facebook, according to the release. Any donations made on that website by the end of Tuesday will count toward the event, but checks must be dated Nov. 29 to count.

In addition to mailing, checks may also be left in the secure drop box behind the Foundation’s office at 254 E. Mansfield St. in Bucyrus, or taken to the Crestline Public Library between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The #Giving2sday event includes some special incentives, according to the news release. A gift of $1,500 from Mizick Miller will support the Mizick Miller 500 Contest, where an additional $500 will be added to the top-earning fund in one of each of three categories: agency, scholarship and school funds. FCBank has provided $1,500, which will be given in three $500 increments during the Power Hour, 6-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Every person who donates money online via the #Giving2sday website during that time period will have their name added to a drawing, and the three names drawn can then add this prize to the fund of their choice.

In 2021, the Foundation contributed more than $800,000 in grants, scholarships and endowment disbursements in Crawford County.
