FENNVILLE — Community members are fundraising after a beloved food trailer owner, Brandon Kury, suffered a heart attack.

Kury and his wife, Becky, own Smoke'N Joe's BBQ, which parks weekly in Holland and dishes out ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and beans.

"Unfortunately Smoke'N Joe's will be closed for a bit," Becky wrote on the business' Facebook on Thursday, July 14. "The big guy had a heart attack last night and we are waiting for a heart catheter this morning. We will keep you posted, and would appreciate prayers at this time."

As of Wednesday, Kury was recovering from a triple bypass.

"He will be in ICU for a day or (two) and then (four to six) days on one of the heart floors," Becky wrote on Facebook. "The road to recovery is now the priority but I know he's strong enough to rock it. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for him and checked on me. I can't wait to get him home."

Smoke'N Joe's has wound its way through Ottawa and Allegan counties since 2017 — touching base in Fennville, Allegan, Holland and Saugatuck. As often as possible, Kury gives back.

"We do as much as possible," he told The Sentinel in April. "We've worked with the Holland City Mission (now Gateway Mission) with their shelters — we'll go in and take over their kitchen and serve a meal.

"We do fundraisers for schools, and every other month we'll go to Heartside Park in Grand Rapids and serve anywhere from 150 to 250 meals for the homeless. That's entirely through donations we receive."

Now, fundraiser organizer Allison Burks is hoping the community will repay the favor.

"It’s our turn to help them during this difficult and unexpected (setback)," she wrote on GoFundMe. "As you know, their income comes from the (BBQ) stand and they will not be able to do this for a while."
