Community to hold benefit for Butler County man saved from burning car

The community in Butler County is rallying around the man who was saved from a burning car in November.

Ryan Davidson is sharing his story for the first time since the terrible crash. He said he feels fortunate to be alive.

“I’m glad to have a second chance and that my son is now here and everything,” said Davidson.

Exclusive dashcam video shows the moment when Butler Township’s fire chief and two police officers rushed to save Davidson. He had a seizure while driving and hit a gas line.

Davidson met his heroes weeks later when they were recognized for jumping into action. Davidson suffered second degree burns on his hands, neck and head. Channel 11 asked him how he’s holding up.

“Physically, I’m good. Mentally, I’m still trying to get some abilities back. I’ve been repeating a lot of stuff to my family,” said Davidson.

Davidson is a delivery driver for China Palace and was making a delivery that day.

He’s not cleared to work yet as he recovers, so medical bills and other expenses are piling up. Now the community is holding an event this weekend to raise money for him.

“We are holding a spaghetti dinner benefit at the Butler Moose Lodge with spaghetti, alfredo, auction baskets, 50/50 with little side raffle games as well,” said Amber Madliger, a longtime family friend and organizer.

The fundraiser will be at the Butler Moose Lodge on Jefferson Street on Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Davidson appreciates the support.

“I’ve lived here all my life so I know how people are around here and they do a lot of good things around here,” said Davidson.
