Community hosting fundraiser for woman who lost 2 kids, home in fire

Shelby Trapp-Linn suffered a heartbreaking loss in December when her Sewickley home burned down, forcing her to jump from a second-story balcony. That fire claimed the lives of her two young children, Lyric Keys and Jack Wylde Lightner.

“They were so sweet. They were such sweethearts,” said Taylor Bergfelt, a friend and makeup client of Shelby’s.

She babysat Lyric and Wylde while Shelby did makeup for weddings and other events.

Bergfelt was among the nearly 300 people in attendance at a benefit event Friday night at the Broughton Fire Hall.

“I think about her every night. I pray for her every day. This is something that really struck home. I have two children of my own. It’s kind of been living in my head rent-free to do this since it happened in December,” said benefit organizer Ali Simcho, who knows Shelby through working in the wedding industry.

She and several other vendors came together to host Friday’s fundraiser.

“I’m trying to help her so that she doesn’t have to jump right back into work, but I also know she loves what she does,” said Simcho.

For many attendees like Kelly Matey, wanted to show support for Shelby and send her well wishes as she continues to grieve and recover.

“I don’t even know how somebody does that. I don’t even want to imagine that. I’m a mother of three of my own,” Matey said. “I’m getting choked up thinking about that. Shoutout to Shelby.”
