Community meeting on law enforcement transparency

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission (LETAC) invites the public to a community conversation about public safety, the Colorado Springs Police Department, concerns, and priorities of the commission.

The community conversation will be on Wednesday, March 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Deerfield Hills Community Center, located at 4290 Deerfield Hills Road.

The mission of the LETAC is to make recommendations to Colorado Springs City Council which would promote improved understanding and relationships between the police department and the public.

The LETAC was created in 2020 in the wake of nationwide protests against police after the death of George Floyd. At a Special City Council Work Session in June of 2020, City Council directed staff to move forward with forming the advisory committee tasked with bringing policy recommendations to City Council, the Mayor, and the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The group will assist City Council with budget, appropriation, and resource allocation recommendations utilizing data-driven audits of law enforcement performance.
