ADRIAN — A variety of music composed and arranged for a four-part men’s chorus, along with other vocal selections, will be performed beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5, by the community men’s chorus Chiaroscuro.

The Winter Choral Concert will be at the First United Methodist Church of Adrian, 1245 W. Maple Ave. There is no cost, though freewill donations will be accepted, a news release from the men’s chorus said.

This year is the 10-year anniversary of Chiaroscuro, which was formed in February 2013. The men’s vocal group features members who come from diverse walks of life, the release said, and strive to achieve the highest quality musical experience. The name of the choir is Italian for light/dark and is used in vocal music to describe a vocal technique that results in a warm, resonant sound with great brilliance and carrying power.

“Chiaroscuro seeks to touch the hearts and minds of the listener with beautiful, expressive singing,” the release said.

The second half of Sunday’s concert will feature a selection of songs that Chiaroscuro will perform at the IMC Tenor-Bass Choral Consortium 2023 seminar March 18 at Albion College.

Chiaroscuro is directed by its founder, Susan Matych-Hager. She is professor emerita of music at Siena Heights University in Adrian and the 2010 winner of the Maynard Klein Award for artistic excellence and a lifetime of leadership in the field of choral music, presented by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) of Michigan.

Members of the chorus rehearse once a week from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays the at the First United Methodist Church of Adrian.
