Church tag sale taking place in Windsor Locks

WINDSOR LOCKS – The St. Robert Church Parish tag sale will take place Oct. 6 to 7 at 52 South Elm St. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a $10 bag sale on Saturday. All proceeds go to the Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish High School Scholarship program.

Windsor Public Library, Wilson Branch hosting STEM Club, D&D, Book Babies, and more

STEM Club will meet Thursday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 5 p.m. It’s time for Kidspace’s monthly STEM Club for school age children 6 to 11 years old. Calling all school scientists, engineers, mathematicians and inventors to this fun hands on program. This month is all about tension, torsion and gravity in creating catapults. Registration is needed.

Home Safety & Fall Risk Reduction will take place Thursday, Oct. 5, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Home safety and fall risk management is a topic that all adults should think about. Registration is suggested.

Book Babies will meet Friday, Oct. 6, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Join Kidspace for Book Babies, a program for babies 16 months and under and their caregivers. Enjoy developmentally appropriate stories, songs, and rhymes. Registration is needed.

Dungeons & Dragons will meet Saturday, Oct. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Teens and tweens are invited to play Dungeons and Dragons on the first Saturday of each month at the Wilson Branch Library. No experience is necessary. Please register.

Sharpie Art will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 4 p.m. Use sharpies and rubbing alcohol on canvas to create unique, ethereal pieces to display in your room. Not super artsy? Not a problem. Space and supplies are limited. Registration is needed.

Planning Your Funeral will take place Monday, Oct. 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Presented by Carmon Funeral Home, this presentation will include a variety of topics such as a green burial, pre-planning your funeral, and more. Registration is suggested.

Mad Science: Potions Class will take place Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. This month is a special Halloween edition of Mad Science and Harry Potter themed potion stations. Non-Harry Potter fans can certainly attend and enjoy the fun potion creations. Ages 6 to 12.

Sewing Study Hall will take place Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Need a little help getting started on a sewing project? Windsor resident and local seamstress Erin Lien is here to help. Bring whatever sewing project you’re working on and Erin will help get you going and on your way. Register for a half hour one-on-one session. A waiver must be signed to use the sewing machine. Teens under 18 must have a parent/guardian sign on their behalf.

Participants will get a 30 minute session. After you register, you will be contacted to pick a 30 minute time slot between 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. or 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Little Sprouts will meet Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., featuring STEM-inspired play that explores concepts through sensory experiences. For ages 16 months – 24 months. Siblings are welcome to attend, but do not need to register.

“I Survived” Book Club will meet Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. The book club is “I Survived,” based on the series of the same name. Would you survive these catastrophes and calamities? Have fun discussing what you would do. This month is about Surviving Hurricane Katrina. Ages 7-12. Registration is required.

Young Explorers will meet Thursday, Oct. 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Travel to countries and many U.S. states to learn about people, animals and much more. The adventure this month is a visit to Peru. Stories, crafts and activities are all part of this program for ages 3-5 years old and a caregiver. Registration is required.

The Afternoon Book Club will meet Thursday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 3 p.m. Join the Afternoon Book Club for a lively discussion of If It Bleeds by Stephen King. This will be a hybrid program at the Main Library. Participants can either join us in person at the library in Meeting Room 2 or login from home using Zoom. Discussions are held on the second Thursday of every month. Books are available at the Lending Desk, one month prior to each meeting. Registration is required.

LEGO Creations will take place Thursday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Eager engineers ages seven and up are invited to design and build their own LEGO Creations at the Wilson Branch Library.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions will take place Thursday, Oct.12, from 5 to 6 p.m. Join Erin Mackel, a Registered Nurse and University of Hartford graduate student. She will have resources, symptom management strategies, and goal setting for meaningful change. No registration is required.

Get to Know Your Makerspace: Button Maker & Typewriter will take place Thursday, Oct. 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. Drop in on select Thursdays from October through December, and get to know Makerspace. Each session will focus on one to two machines. No registration is necessary.

Time for a Check-Up! Teddy Bear Clinic will meet Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Join Nicole, a Certified Child Life Specialist, for an engaging program to help children of all ages prepare for routine check-ups. Use doctor kits and real medical equipment to explore, learn and play. Bring along a favorite stuffed animal, doll, or action figure to give them a check-up. Please register.

Windsor Lions hosting craft fair

WINDSOR – The Windsor Lions Fall arts and craft fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, rain or shine, at the Windsor Town Green, 275 Broad St. Homemade crafts from over 50 artisans will be for sale. Northern CT Land Trust to host hike in Somers

SOMERS – On Sunday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m., the Northern CT Land Trust will lead a hike at the Skyline Scenic Area. This will be a moderate hike with great views of the valley to the west. The distance will be about two miles, up and downhill. Meet at the rear of the Somers Town Hall, 600 Main St., to carpool to the trailhead. For questions, call Albert Grant at 860-623-5487.

Rhyme Time will take place Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is designed to promote early language skills for ages birth to 24 months, accompanied by parents or caregivers.

Sound Healing with Julia Nadolny will take place Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Nadolny is certified in energy-medicine and will lead participants in a connecting and reflective experience. Attendees are asked to bring a yoga mat, beach towel or blanket to lay on during the program. Chairs will also be available.

Enfield Junior Women’s Club hosting meet-and-greet, Whist party

ENFIELD – Enfield Junior Women’s Club is holding a meet and greet event on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Enfield Central Library 104 Middle Road.

The Woman’s Club of Enfield is having a Crazy Whist game on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and there will be a light lunch and raffle. Cost is $5. The location is 383 Hazard Ave.
