Amarillo DQ restaurants to support Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation during 'Miracle Treat Day' Thursday

BEDFORD, Texas – Miracle Treat Day is set for Thursday, July 27 at participating DQ restaurants in Texas. According to a news release, fans can support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by ordering and enjoying a Blizzard Treat in Amarillo that will benefit Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation.

For every DQ Blizzard purchased, $1 or more will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Any Blizzard flavor will do the trick, but the new Caramel Fudge Cheesecake, available through Aug. 27 while supplies last, is one tasty option, the release notes.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 27, to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Visit a DQ dining room or use the convenient drive-thru.

5th Annual Tip-A-Cop events Thursday at Texas Roadhouse benefit Special Olympics Texas

As Special Olympics Texas races into the final heats of summer sports, Amarillo’s Texas Roadhouse is teaming up with local police to raise money for the statewide organization. Police officers will help serve guests at the “Tip-A-Cop” event and collect donations; the event takes place 5-9 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at Texas Roadhouse, 2805 W. I-40 in Amarillo. The local fundraiser is part of a statewide effort with dozens of other Texas Roadhouse locations holding fundraisers the same week.

Over the past 14 years, Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the state have raised more than $1,746,600 at this event for Special Olympics. Texas Roadhouse has a continuous history of giving back to its communities. In this case, 100% of all donations will go directly to Special Olympics Texas.

TxDOT to host open houses for proposed improvements on Amarillo Boulevard

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is offering three opportunities for the public to learn about proposed improvements on Business I-40D (Amarillo Boulevard). The improvements, between I-40 West and SW 9th Avenue, would include modifying existing median cross-overs, (reconstruct, remove, and/or relocate), constructing turn lanes, extending the limits of safety illumination, constructing median barriers, and constructing continuous sidewalk or shared use path.

Two in-person sessions are scheduled to take place 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at Amarillo College West Campus Lecture Hall, located 6222 SW 9th Ave. Citizens can also access an online session at https://www.txdot.gov/projects/hearings-meetings/amarillo/amarillo-blvd-072723.html .

TxDOT staff will be onsite to answer questions regarding the project. All maps and exhibits on display at the open house presentations will also be available for viewing at www.txdot.gov, keyword: BI-40D.

Join Panhandle PBS for 'Savor the Goods: Delvin’s Southern Soul'

The Panhandle’s best dinner series is back. Join Panhandle PBS for “Savor the Goods: Delvin’s Southern Soul,” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 in the Vermillion Gallery at Arts in the Sunset, 3701 Plains Blvd.

This installment of the “Savor the Goods” dinner series will feature chef Delvin Wilson, owner of Delvin’s in Amarillo. Delvin and his family will be in the kitchen and at center stage for the event, where you’ll learn all you need to know about soul food and Southern cooking from the heart.

When the doors open at 5:30, Sips & Giggles will be serving Sazeracs, French 75 cocktails and hurricane punch. A variety of snacks, including Tex-Mex Pimento Cheese and deviled eggs, will be available to get the evening rolling. For the main course, guests can look forward to a New Orleans-inspired menu of Delvin’s famed smoked brisket and Chicken Diane served with dirty rice and soul food sides. To round out the night with dessert, there will be buttermilk pie and Coca-Cola cake, Delvin’s mother’s recipe, now baked at the restaurant by his daughter.

'R.V' screening at RV museum Thursday

The Amarillo Film Society is hosting its second event Thursday at the Jack Sisemore Traveland RV Museum with a showing of the 2006 Robin Williams comedy “R.V.”

Among its many recreational vehicles (RV) on display at the museum is the RV used in the film. The “RV” screening is free to the public, with donations accepted.

Doors open Thursday at 7 p.m., and the movie showing begins at 8 p.m.

Guests should bring their own lawn chairs and snacks.

The RV museum is located at 14501 Interstate Highway 27, FM 2219.
