Prayer gathering to be held at noon today

A 2023 National Day of Prayer gathering will be held Thursday, May 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Amarillo House of Prayer, located at Miracle Covenant Church Healing Center, 806 S. Bryan St., in Amarillo.

Discovery Center offers discount to teachers

The Don Harrington Discovery Center is offering discounted admission to teachers and their families in observance of Teachers Apprecation Week on Saturday, May 6.

Teachers will need to show their school badge in order to receive the discount for them and their family, and will also receive a free box of popcorn from the Discovery Center’s concession stand.

Teachers from the Discovery Center’s partner schools typically receive free admission, but this will be the first time this discount is extended to the rest of their families as well as non-partner schools.

The Discovery Center will also be hosting a Teacher Job Fair this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for visitors to explore summer camp teaching positions. Follow The Discovery Center on Facebook and Instagram for more information on their community programs.

Walmart Wellness Day features free screenings, affordable immunizations at Walmart pharmacies nationwide May 6

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Before hitting the road this summer, Walmart wants you to know there is a day dedicated to your health: Wellness Day on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Customers can receive free health screenings for things like glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure, as well as affordable immunizations like flu, COVID-19, shingles, tetanus, measles and others at pharmacies nationwide. Customers will also find an array of product offerings ranging from allergy relief options to vitamins and more.

More than 4,600 Walmart pharmacies across the country will host Walmart Wellness Day events. Select stores will feature vision screenings, in-store giveaways and demos of wellness products to make it even easier for customers to access the specialized services they need. Customers can enjoy sampling products across Health & Wellness including digestive supplements, vitamins and nutrition items at select locations.

Walmart Wellness Day events feature the following health resources, administered by qualified pharmacy and Vision Center teams:

  • Free health screenings, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and vision screenings (select locations)

  • Affordable immunizations, including flu, measles, mumps, pneumonia, tetanus, HPV, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox/shingles), whooping cough (TDAP), Hepatitis A & B and more

  • No cost to patient COVID-19 vaccines

  • Wellness resources and the opportunity to talk with pharmacists

Amarillo Crime Stoppers Fugitive of the Week: Latoi Johnson wanted for aggravated assault

Amarillo Crime Stoppers "Fugitive of the Week" is Latoi Mckinley Johnson, a Black man, 21. He is described as 6'03" tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Johnson is wanted by the Potter County Sheriff's Office for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Those who may have info on Johnson's location are asked to call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400 or submit a tip online at amapolice.org or by using the P3 tips app. Tips that leads to his arrest could earn a reward of $300.
