Community foundation to host 5K Run for Beer

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County Community Foundation (OCCF) asked community members to be active, have fun and give back by participating in the 5K Run for Beer to be held on Catawba Island at Twin Oast Brewing at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, during the brewery’s five-year anniversary activities.

Named the beneficiary by Ohio Brewery Running Series, OCCF will receive a portion of every run ticket sold, ultimately furthering the Foundation’s countywide efforts to aid nonprofit organizations and local students through annual community grants and scholarships.

“Enjoy some healthy activity, great local beer and seasonal swag while supporting the important work OCCF is doing across Ottawa County,” said OCCF Trustee Marcia Jess. “Runners, walkers and joggers from all over are invited to participate.”

Ten percent of each regular registration goes directly to OCCF. For every highest level ($100) registration, OCCF will receive 100% of the ticket amount. Those not wishing to actively participate may still register to benefit OCCF’s efforts. The 5k-ish, informal “Fun Run” on Catawba Island starts and ends at the taproom at Twin Oast Brewing. Other brewery anniversary entertainment will be available onsite that day.

Communities foundation, attorney general's office host Charitable University

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Communities Foundation (SCCF) with the Ohio Attorney General’s office recently held a board member training, called Charitable University. Charitable University focused on putting tools in the hands of charitable board members and key leaders so they can govern the organizations in which they serve with maximum effectiveness for impact.

“Beth Short with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office covered a broad range of topics related to serving on a nonprofit board. The training proved to be beneficial for seasoned, new, and prospective board members and nonprofit leaders and staff,” stated Executive Director of the SCCF Andrea Gibson.

Charitable University launched in January of this year on the Ohio Attorney General’s website, and Sandusky County Communities Foundation was honored to be just the third county in Ohio to have hosted the in-person training. Two identical training courses were held on May 2 and May 3 with over 100 attendees between the two days.

“The great turnout for Charitable University really shows the commitment that our nonprofit board members and leaders have in the area to living up to their legal obligations in ensuring the sound and ethical operations of the organizations that they serve,” Gibson said.

Those who participated in the training will receive a Charitable University completion certificate from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and will be listed on the OAG’s web page with others who participate in the training throughout the state.
