Kiwanis inducts new Fremont, Key Club officers

FREMONT - Ohio District Kiwanis Division 12 Lt. Governor Beth Rice presided over the installation of Fremont Kiwanis, Ross Key Club, St. Joseph Central Catholic Key Club and Clyde Key Club officers at the Sept. 28 Fremont Kiwanis luncheon at the Fremont Elks Lodge.

Rice also installed Elyssa Belden as Lt. Governor of Div. 12-W Key Club. Effective Oct. 1, the "change of the guard" leadership team for Fremont Kiwanis is President Jenny Freeh; President-Elect Rachael McCoy; 2nd Vice President Tom Bowlus; Immediate Past President Bob Gross; Secretary Kim Huffman; Treasurer Carla Waggoner; and the Board of Directors — Laurie Young, Mike Jay, Jerri Miller, Ken Kreilick, and Sue Berryman.

President Freeh encouraged Fremont Kiwanians and Service Leadership Program (SLP) officers by reading aloud the Kiwanis International Mission Statement: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time." The ODK Governor Jason Miller's Project this year is supporting SLP clubs, according to Freeh. Miller is a member of the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club.

FREMONT - Local Vietnam Veteran, Bill Druckenmiller of Fremont had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., according to a release from the Sandusky County Veterans Services  He was assisted by two students from Norwalk High School, Delaney Illuzzi and Bailey Rathier.  They were selected to help with the wreath laying.

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur visits Materion’s Elmore facility

ELMORE - Materion welcomed U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in the U.S. House, at its Elmore facility in recognition of National Manufacturing Day on Oct. 6.As a long-time advocate for manufacturing and supporter of Materion, Kaptur toured the buildings to see firsthand the innovative technologies and processes the company uses to drive performance materials solutions.The team showed the congresswoman the plant's cutting-edge capabilities to create materials and how it has invested millions in improvements to Elmore since the last time she visited the facility in 2010.“I appreciate each one of you,” Kaptur said. “You have done something big and invested in your company, and it gives us a chance to grow.”More than 700 employees work at the Elmore site, making it the largest employer of Ottawa County. Materion leaders, including CEO Jugal Vijayvargiya, explained how Elmore has given back to its community, dramatically improved safety and expanded its diversity and inclusion programs.“We are positioning ourselves for future success. We are modernizing critical equipment, investing in our workforce,” said Keith Smith, vice president of nuclear and science.

BUSF Community Raffle underway

BELLEVUE - The annual Bellevue United Selective Fund (BUSF) Community Raffle is underway. The Community Raffle is hosted by The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) with prizes for the raffle all being donated by local and area businesses.

Over the last 14 years, the Community Raffle has raised over $60,000 for the BUSF. The BUSF acts as a collection agency for donated funds which are then distributed to various local non-profit organizations and charities. Last year alone, the BUSF campaign raised more than $100,000 for area charities and non-profits.

Tickets for the Community Raffle are priced at $5 each or five tickets for $20 with all proceeds benefitting the BUSF. Winners will be announced on Nov. 9. Winners need not be present to win.

Tickets are available at The Bellevue Hospital Gift Shop, 1400 W. Main St., Bellevue.
