Dancing with the Stars returns for 14th season in Ottawa County

PORT CLINTON — The 14th Season of Dancing with the Stars will benefit the Family Advocacy Center in Ottawa County.

The stars are preparing to wow the audience with their performances when the event takes place on Nov. 19 at Carolyn's Sunrise Banquet Hall in Millbury. The stars raising money and preparing dances this year are: Nate Daniels, John Davenport, Rose Huskey, Lynne James, Alex Morgan-Johnson, and Sandy Mclean.

In addition to a lot of hard work on dancing, the stars are busy raising funds to support the work of the center. The star that raises the most money wins the coveted mirror ball trophy.

Tickets are $55 each and include dinner, a cash bar and entertainment. They are available from any star or the office at 419-301-0225.

Magruder Hospital offers monthly Diabetes Get-Togethers

PORT CLINTON — Magruder Hospital offers monthly Diabetes Get-Togethers in the conference center on the first Thursday each month at 11 a.m. except there will be no meeting in December. These free get-togethers are for anyone dealing with Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes, including family and friends.

The meeting on Thursday, Nov. 3, will be about staying on track during the holidays. Discussions are led by Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. Join us to learn, have your questions answered, support one another and share stories.

PCHS Drama Club to offer student play

PORT CLINTON — The Port Clinton High School Drama Club is presenting its student production of "The 39 Steps" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 and Nov 12 and 2 p.m. Nov 13 in the PCHS Performing Arts Center.

PCHS Drama Club is looking for patrons to help support this production and related production costs such as royalties, set design, and costuming.

Patrons can list name, group, or company in the production program. The categories are from $10 to $100. Make checks payable to the Port Clinton City Schools by Friday, Nov. 4, and send all correspondences to Sierra Kytta at Port Clinton High School, 821 S. Jefferson St., Port Clinton OH 43452.

Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K returns in Gibsonburg

GIBSONBURG — The Ugly Christmas Sweater Run and Walk, a Gibsonburg holiday tradition, will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 10. The 5K (3.1 Mile) run and walk will start and finish at Gibsonburg Town Hall on North Webster Street .

As in years past, the entry fee for this event will be a new and unwrapped toy or nonperishable food items. Toys are distributed to young people from the community by the Gibsonburg Ministerial Association and Gibsonburg School District and food items are placed on the shelves of the Gibsonburg Food Pantry.

Special awards will be presented to the Adult Male and Female and Youth Boy and Girl with the “Ugliest” Christmas Sweaters. In addition, Ideal Bakery Donuts will be served at Town Hall after the event.

GLCAP offering heating assistance this winter

FREMONT — Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) will again offer heating assistance for those facing a utility shutoff or fuel shortage this winter.

The GLCAP Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) helps residents of Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wood counties who have received a gas or electric disconnect notice or have already had utilities disconnected. The program also helps households with less than 25 percent bulk fuel supplies such as wood, propane, or fuel oil. EHEAP also assists residents who need new or transferred service with a utility company or have non-working furnaces.

The scheduling hotline for appointments is now open at 567-432-5046. Scheduling may also be conducted online at glcap.org/winterheating. Appointments will be conducted in-person.

Residents must also be at or below 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines (e.g. $23,783 annual income/household of one; $48,563 annual income/family of four) in order to be eligible for assistance. Applicants must provide a list of all household members, including social security numbers, birthdates, and proof of citizenship; proof of income for all household members for the previous 30 days or 12 months; and copies of recent utility bills.

For applicants seeking utility payment plan help through GLCAP’s Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) Plus program should apply online at glcap.org/pipp, or download, complete, and return a paper application to GLCAP at 127 S. Front St., Fremont, 43420. No PIPP-only appointments will be conducted.
