GENOA - GenoaBank experienced the excitement of Santa Claus at the Genoa Branch location.

On Dec. 4, GenoaBank hosted Cookies with Santa at the Genoa Branch location, 801 Main S.

This was a free event open to the community, inviting families and children of all ages. Kids enjoyed one-on-one time with Santa Claus receiving a photo with him. Frosted sugar cookies, donuts, cupcakes, and a hot-chocolate bar with toppings galore were provided. Kids participated in holiday take-home crafts and games.

“This was our fourth annual for GenoaBank, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come,” said Martin Sutter, GenoaBank’s President and CEO.

Terra State names Linda Hatter November Rotary Student of the Month

FREMONT - Terra State Community College student Linda Hatter has been named the College’s Rotary Student of the Month for November.

Hatter lives in Fostoria with her husband and children.

She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1990 and is taking classes at Terra State to earn her Associate of Applied Business degree in Accounting.

Hatter said she chose Terra State because “the faculty and staff at Terra State are super kind, helpful and provide encouragement.”

Being a first-generation student, she said her experience was a little overwhelming at first. “Going back to college as a middle-aged mother ... I felt out of place with so many younger students than me. My parents didn’t have the money for me to go to college, so it wasn’t something I had thought about,” said Hatter. “My main reason I decided to go back was for my children and to better myself. Seeing my children going to college and receiving degrees made me want to learn.”

Outside of class, Hatter enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, couponing and sewing.

Her nominator, Joy Ferkel, a tutor in the Academic Service Center, credits Hatter for her determination and hard work.

“Linda Hatter represents the nontraditional student that was foundational to Terra State’s beginnings. She will be an asset to the college as a graduate, and as an employee as she challenges new generations,” said Ferkel. “Her quiet focus was honed during her home management years as a wife and mother."

Artists' Club to display, sell creations

PORT CLINTON - Through the year, Port Clinton Artists’ Club members display and sell their creations in several locations. A wide variety of artistic talent is exhibited, and the PCAC is grateful for the generosity from local establishments.

The Sutton Center at 1854 E. Perry St., home to businesses and nonprofits, has long been home to the PCAC gallery. Currently, there are nearly 80 pieces of art displayed and for sale. The gallery is open to the public, and right outside the pay-it-forward restaurant Bistro 163.

Several years ago, Judith McKinney, owner of Dublin Commercial Property Services, 127 Madison S., invited the Club to display and sell art in their business window.

Many other businesses in Ottawa County have generously shared PCAC art on an easel in their lobby. They include the Chamber of Commerce, Croghan Colonial Bank, Civista Bank, First Federal Savings of Lorain, First National Bank, Key Bank, Marblehead Bank (both branches), Ida Rupp Library and Oak Harbor Library.

In addition, PCAC art has graced the walls at Magruder Hospital’s Healing Wall several times.

None of this could happen without the dedication of numerous Art Club volunteers. Those responsible for the exhibits are Helen Arnold, chair, Beth Akins, Deb Cantu, Nan Card, Ann Ferguson, Joan Grega, Judy Maher and Jeanne Morgan. It’s that time of year when art is the best gift to give.
