Ugly Sweater Run set for Saturday in Gibsonburg

GIBSONBURG - A local holiday tradition, the Gibsonburg Ugly Christmas Sweater Run and Walk, will continue for the ninth straight year. It will be held at 9 a.m. this Saturday. The 5K (3.1 Mile) run and walk will start and finish at Gibsonburg Town Hall on North Webster Street.

As in years past, entry fee will be a new and unwrapped toy or nonperishable food items. Toys are distributed to young people from the community by the Gibsonburg Ministerial Association and Gibsonburg School District and food items are placed on the shelves of the Gibsonburg Food Pantry.

More than 120 people took part in the Gibsonburg Ugly Sweater Run and Walk in 2022. As in years past, entry fee was a new and unwrapped toy or nonperishable food items. This year's run-walk is set for Saturday.

Special awards will be presented to the Adult Male and Female and Youth Boy and Girl with the “Ugliest” Christmas Sweaters. In addition, Ideal Bakery Donuts will be served at Town Hall after the event.

'Holiday Breakfast with the Arts' tickets on sale

PORT CLINTON - Port Clinton High School will host the 22nd Annual Holiday Breakfast with the Arts will be held on Dec. 19 at Port Clinton High School.  The event is for Port Clinton City School District residents age 60 and older.

Tickets are on sale at the PCHS Main Office, Mary’s Blossom Shoppe, and Otto and Urban Greenhouse and Flower Shop until Friday.  The cost is $2 per person and includes breakfast. Advance ticket purchase is required. The breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. This popular event allows students to show their appreciation to residents of the school district and showcase talented PCHS young artists and musicians. In case of school delay or cancellation the event will be postponed to Dec 20.  See more details at www.pccsd.net.

Arts Council to host holiday concert at Arts Garage

PORT CLINTON - At 6 p.m. Dec. 11, the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council will host a special free multi-holiday concerto at The Arts Garage (TAG) to celebrate the holiday season.

Cellist and pianist Brian Shifflet will perform "Oy to the World" featuring classic songs celebrating Hanukkah and Christmas at part of the GPCAAC’s Evening with the Arts programming.

This event is free and open to all.

Then at 6 p.m. Dec. 13, the GPCAAC will host a Holiday Open House at TAG. This free event for GPCAAC members is to meet and hear from members of the Architectural Committee, who will show the final design and talk about TAG’s rehabilitation. Plus the Steering and Capital Campaign committees will update on progress, TAG's director of operations will share what is going on at TAG, and the slate of officers for 2024 election in January will be announced.

GLCAP home weatherization aid available in seven counties

FREMONT - Residents in Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Seneca, and Wood counties who are feeling the effects of the cold may be eligible for no-cost weatherization services through Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP).

The GLCAP Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) improves home energy usage by providing attic and wall insulation and other upgrades that help homes retain heat and keep the cold air outside. HWAP also provides energy-efficient furnaces and water heaters, wrapped ductwork, and energy-saving water measures that help lower home energy usage and utility expenses.

The service is available at no cost for eligible residents of Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Seneca, and Wood counties at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines (e.g. $60,000 annual gross income/household of four).

Humane Society places Giving Trees in three locations

PORT CLINTON - The Humane Society of Ottawa County has made it easy to donate to the shelter this holiday season by placing Giving Trees in two local locations, Bassett's Market, 3994 East Harbor Road, Port Clinton and Miller's New Market, 22361 West Holt Road, Genoa, with a third Giving Tree sponsored by the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council at The Arts Garage, 317 W. Perry St., Port Clinton.

These 6-foot Christmas trees have paper ornaments printed with items needed at the Humane Society. Shoppers take an ornament off the tree, purchase the item listed and return the item to the store. A box is provided with the tree for these donations. Items needed include cat and kitten food, paper towels, pet toys and gas cards.

Some ornaments list monetary donations to pay for a dog or cat spay/neuter, veterinary tests, vaccinations or adoption fees. These monetary donations can be mailed to the Humane Society using a self-addressed envelope attached to the ornament.
