'Moments and Memories' is newest exhibit at art garage

PORT CLINTON - The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council has announced the next exhibit at The Arts Garage (TAG) this spring: the dynamic works of two local resident artists, Steve and Linda Kelley.

“Moments and Memories: A Journey through Light and Shadows will be on display at TAG from March 31 until April 24.

“Moments” represents insights into what the Kelleys have valued in their life around water, Linda said.

“It is an opportunity to share the drama of this environment as well as the sometimes overlooked beauty of seemingly insignificant, common elements,” she said.

An opening reception will be held at TAG at 6 p.m. March 31.

The Arts Garage, which is home to the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council, is in the city’s old maintenance garage at 317 W. Perry St. in Port Clinton. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.; closed Monday and Tuesday and major holidays.

CMP welcomes Maj. Gen. Munera as speaker at JROTC Awards Ceremony

PORT CLINTON - On March 25, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will host the JROTC Three-Position National Championships awards ceremony — recognizing the top sporter and precision air rifle JROTC teams and individuals from across the country.

The match is set to be held March 23-25 at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, on the grounds of Camp Perry. The National Championship is the culminating event of a junior air rifle series that began in September with over 6,000 junior cadets who competed in the Postal Championships before moving on to Regional Service Championships in February. Leading individuals and teams from the 900 athletes who competed in the regional events were invited to move on to the two-day competition in Ohio, where winners will be crowned National Champions.

The JROTC awards ceremony, a formal occasion to celebrate the hard work of the 225 young cadets who made it to the national event, will be held at Kalahari Resorts Convention Center in Sandusky. Along with dinner and awards, those in attendance will be addressed by special guest speaker, Major General Antonio Munera.

Maj. Gen. Munera has accumulated a successful military career that has spanned over 30 years.
