Chamber adds two new staff members

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce announced the addition of two new staff members.

They are Stacy Root, membership and events coordinator, and Lori Mooney Fox, marketing coordinator.

Root and Fox are both Fremont natives and they join the chamber staff with several years of experience in their respective fields.

Jill Felber Concert pays back and forward for Port Clinton Schools

PORT CLINTON - Aug. 31 was a great night at the Port Clinton High School Performing Arts Center.  Internationally acclaimed recording artist, Jill Felber, PCHS Class of 1976, along with pianist Dianne Frazer performed in memory of longtime band director, Earl E. Warnke.

Felber said, “This concert is meant to pay back and to pay it forward to our Port Clinton Music Program and to pay tribute to all our music mentors past and present, who have created a memorable and meaningful music experience for Port Clinton students.”

Thanks to many local sponsors and PCHS alumni, the concert was free to attend and raised over $30,000 for the Port Clinton School music program to purchase new instruments.

Jackie Mayer, Miss America 1963, served as Master of Ceremonies and took the stage as Felber and Frazer played the Miss America theme song.  The concert also included a tribute to Warnke by opening with “Stardust,” a song that was part of the program when the 1974 Wind Ensemble traveled to Holland for the International Tulip Time Festival and placed third.

Diane Warnke Hawk, daughter of Earl E. Warnke, thanked the audience for coming and added, “When Jill called last March and wanted to perform in honor of Dad, I was so touched. I want to thank our dedicated committee for all of their hard work to make this concert possible.”

Debra Sue Solecki artworks displayed on Healing Wall

PORT CLINTON - The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council announced the works of the Debra Sue Solecki will be on display at the Healing Wall at Magruder Hospital.

Solecki’s works will don the halls of the local hospital in September and October 2023.

The Healing Wall is a rotating exhibit of artists from around the Ottawa County area and began nearly 10 years ago as a collaboration between the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council and the hospital.

The idea is the Healing Wall, which is in the outpatient wing hallway, can give a few moments of peace through the stress of a hospital visit.

Magruder Hospital is at 615 Fulton St.

North Central Ohio Expands Specialized Oncology Care with UH Seidman Cancer Center

CLEVELAND – In collaboration with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, the physicians, advanced practice providers, and staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Magruder Hospital and NOMS Healthcare are now working together to provide compassionate, high-quality care at three convenient locations in Port Clinton, Sandusky, and Norwalk.

Theodoros Teknos, MD, President, and Scientific Director, UH Seidman Cancer Center and the Jane and Lee Seidman Chair in Cancer Innovation said, “We are committed to bringing the expert, quality care of UH Seidman Cancer Center throughout North Central Ohio and beyond, and this collaboration is the latest step in realizing that vision. We welcome the teams at all facilities and look forward to joining forces.”

Firelands Regional Medical Center President and CEO Jeremy Normington-Slay echoed that statement. “This regional collaboration builds on the foundation we’ve created over the last decade to bring innovative approaches to cancer treatment. With continued expansion in radiation therapy, clinical trials, cancer rehabilitation, and holistic care we are able to deliver the best possible cancer care to our community,” he said.

President and CEO Joshua Frederick, of NOMS Healthcare agreed.  He said, “As a Physician-owned and led organization, we are very excited to have our oncology specialists collaborating with our community hospitals and a nationally recognized health system.  This allows our patients to receive care closer to home, improve care coordination among multiple providers and organizations in the greater region, while being plugged into a large, academic institution, which participates in over 400 various cancer-related clinical trials."

Magruder Hospital President and CEO Nick Marsico also looked forward to the professional collaboration. “We are proud and excited to be a part of this regional partnership that provides the highest quality care for patients in the comfort of their trusted local hospitals,” he said.
