Bridgewater barbershop owner dies in snowy Freetown crash

Local residents are mourning after the owner of a Bridgewater barbershop died in a snowy crash in Freetown on the morning of Jan. 7. The crash killed 45-year-old Jason Saccocia, of New Bedford, the owner of Jason's Bridgewater Barbershop on Main Street in Bridgewater. In his memory, patrons of the business and others who knew Saccocia have placed flowers outside the business as a makeshift memorial. "RIP Jason," read one card placed at the door of the business with flowers. "We ALL love you so much!"

Which Brockton and Stoughton employees made the most in 2020? Here are the top 10 salaries

In 2020, as in years past, the highest earning city employees in Brockton were police officers, firefighters and the superintendent of schools, according to an Enterprise analysis of 2020 city employee salaries. In Brockton, all the top earning city employees either worked for the fire or police departments, other than the superintendent. Ten police officers and five firefighters made over $200,000 in base pay. The majority of the top earners in Stoughton were police officers. The majority of the lowest earners worked for the school department.

Baker commutes 1st-degree murder sentences of Brockton's William Allen, Thomas Koonce

Gov. Charlie Baker has commuted the first-degree murder sentences of two Brockton men, making both immediately eligible for parole. Baker's office on Wednesday morning announced the approval of the commutation requests of William Allen and Thomas Koonce to second-degree murder. The commutations, which were previously recommended by the Massachusetts Parole Board, now need to be approved by the Governor's Council. If approved, Allen and Koonce would be eligible for a parole hearing and would be on parole for life if granted.

Two Brockton natives are trying to recreate another "viral" sports anthem that uplifts Brockton while giving Patriots fans a new jingle to turn up to. Randall Coulanges and Brandon Cappiello have been making music together since their high school days at Oliver Ames in Easton. In 2016, the duo dropped their song "Champion" on YouTube and gained over 993,000 views. The artists, known as B-Capp and Randy Lo, are coming back for round three with their new song"Patriot" (new era anthem).

By late summer 2021, the national labor shortage had hit everywhere in the country, and the Brockton area was no exception. From manufacturing to restaurants to landscaping, business owners in the Brockton area were having trouble finding applicants, and even more trouble getting anyone to show up for their first day of work. But even with more people in Brockton and all over the state taking new jobs, there are still industries for which the labor shortage is raging on.
