Commuter train makes emergency stop to avoid woman on tracks in Cohasset
COHASSET − A Greenbush Line commuter rail train made an emergency stop Tuesday after a conductor saw a suicidal woman on the tracks, police said.
An engineer stopped the train at about 11 a.m. Tuesday between the Pleasant and Pond Street crossings because a 62-year-old Cohasset woman was lying on the tracks, Police Chief William Quigley said.
"Information from the MBTA was that the engineer ... had to put the train into 'emergency' when he rounded a bend at approximately 30 mph and observed a female lying across the tracks hundreds of feet away," Quigley said in an email.

The train, which was heading from Scituate to Boston, did not hit the woman and the 10 commuters on board were not injured. The woman was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
“We are so grateful that the MBTA/Keolis engineer, and conductor, were well trained and quick acting. Their fast actions absolutely saved a life today," Quigley said. “If you or someone you know may be considering suicide or is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.”
Rail service was shut down for about 30 minutes.
