As Watson's accusers' names go public, one of the 22 women alleging unwanted sex acts will not go forward with a civil lawsuit.
- A statement from Reliant says, in part, our relationship with Watson as a brand ambassador was scheduled to end this spring prior to these allegations, and there are no plans for future engagements or contracts with him. We take accusations of this nature very seriously. With respect to the legal process, we do not have any further comment on the matter.
And this statement from Nike says, quote, we are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and have suspended Deshaun Watson. We will continue to closely monitor the situation. Watson's other partnerships, including Rolex and the Lefty's restaurant located near NRG park and H-E-B just sent us this statement here. H-E-B relationship with Deshaun Watson ended with the Texans' 2020 season. There are no plans for future engagement.
Well, Houston police are investigating Watson, but have not criminally charged him. So we spoke to legal analyst Steve Shellist about what this all means.
STEVE SHELLIST: Once you make a criminal complaint and the police get involved, it becomes a lot more serious. You certainly, it's a crime to make a false report to a police officer. So I think what this does is it lends some credibility to the plaintiff's cases.
- Now, Watson has denied the allegations. And his lawyer, Rusty Hardin, provided an email exchange from February, in which he claims the accuser's lawyer was asking for $100,000 in hush money to quietly settle these cases here. So far, 18 professional massage therapists have also come out in support of Watson.
And on our website right now, we have a timeline detailing how this all unfolded. The allegations date back to March of 2020. We also have summaries of each lawsuit against Watson.
