Blackstone, Mallinckrodt, Amazon, Walmart: Companies to watch

Here are the companies the Yahoo Finance team is watching for you today.

Blackstone (BX) is going even deeper into the logistics business. It's buying hundreds of industrial warehouses across the country from Colony Capital. The price tag is $5.9 billion in cash and debt. Blackstone has quickly become one of the nation's largest logistics warehouse owners, after buying GLP's warehouses earlier this year for nearly $19 billion.

Drug maker Mallinckrodt (MNK) has reached a settlement with two Ohio counties over its role in the opioid crisis. The company will shell out $24 million to the counties, provide $6 million in products and a $500,000 payment to the counties for time and expenses. Mallinckrodt's stock has plunged more than 75% in the last three months.

A record weekend for e-commerce in India. Amazon (AMZN) and Walmart-owned Flipkart (WMT) both announced record-sales in the opening day of their festive season in India, when the country makes most of its biggest purchases. Amazon reported sales of over $7 million dollars in just 36 hours, and Flipkart reported double-digit sales growth from last year in all of its major categories on the first day.

Talks are accelerating between General Motors (GM) and the UAW. Both sides continue trying to work out a new labor deal as a union strike moves into its third week. The UAW released a statement saying, "we will continue to look for solutions to reach an agreement." The use of temporary workers appears to be a top sticking point.

Comcast's (CMCSA) Universal has another hit on its hands. The animated film "Abominable" brought in nearly $21 million dollars over the weekend, topping the box office. This is the 7th number one film this year for Universal, more than rival Disney. Universal can claim all three number one original releases this year including "Us" and "Goodboys."
