Companies to Watch: Big quarter for Estée Lauder, major addition for Uber, Tesla to rent out solar panels

A big quarter at one of the biggest names in cosmetics. Estee Lauder (EL) topped expectations on earnings and revenue, driven in part by strong sales overseas. The CEO called it a "tough retail environment" in the U.S., which only saw modest growth. He says they plan to focus on emerging markets into 2020.

There's a new boss heading up Uber's (UBER) operations in Britain and Ireland. Melinda Roylett started this morning and joins the company from Square. She already has a lot on her plate. Uber's probationary license to operate in London is set to expire next month. Uber has started a host of new initiatives, including 24-hour phone support, in hopes of winning over regulators.

Google (GOOGL) is reportedly cutting off access to some information from its Android phones. Reuters says the company has shut down a service that showed weak spots in cellular networks. The data was anonymous and users had to opt in. The decision comes amid growing concerns over privacy and the use of personal information online.

Tesla (TSLA) is trying to re-boot its solar panel business by giving residents in six states a chance to rent the panels instead of buying them. CEO Elon Musk announced the re-launch of Tesla Solar on twitter. Customers living in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New Mexico can take advantage of the offer. Pricing is as low as $50 a month.

One of the most popular video games of all time is getting a makeover with the help of Nvidia (NVDA). Microsoft (MSFT) announced a new partnership with the chip-maker and Minecraft, its popular action-adventure game. Minecraft will now use Nvidia's real-time ray tracing technology to provide more realistic graphics on PC's.
